Chapter 24- The Chasm

-Chapter 24~ The Chasm-

Tris' Pov

"Tobias," I ask, swinging the apartment door open and glancing into the apartment. "Tobias, where are you?"

I step further into the living room and throw my small bag that I carry to work onto the couch. I got out of work about ten minutes ago and headed straight home. Tobias had left the control room early today saying he wasn't feeling well and needed to get some rest. Zeke and I allowed him to leave since we didn't have that much work to do today, plus there was another Dauntless member working today to help us with anything.

I had wanted to come back to the apartment with Tobias to make sure he was feeling well, but he insisted that he was fine and that I stayed with Zeke at work.

"Tobias?" I ask again, walking into the kitchen. Nothing has been moved around since I left this morning, showing that he never reentered this room or if he did, he didn't move anything. I walk into the bedroom which is also exactly how I left it this morning. The bed is still freshly made and nothing has been changed on the bedside tables.

Where on earth is he?

I pick up my phone and text our friends asking if anyone's seen him. A few people reply with simple 'No's' and other's who haven't read the message yet don't reply at all.

Did he get hurt or something coming back to the apartment?

Did he lie to me about where he was going?

Multiple thoughts all come to my mind at once and I get extremely worried. I walk into the dining room and finally see something that wasn't here before I left for work.

On the dining room table sits a box with a small piece of paper attached. The box is a light pink color and has a red bow tied on the top. The small note is attached to the box with ribbon that's the same color as the bow.

What's this?

I walk closer to the box and lift up the note:

'My dearest Beatrice,

Our night of romance has begun so let us now have some fun.

Go to the place that reflects your face

To find the second clue.

A scavenger hunt? I've never actually even been on a scavenger hunt before, mainly because of my Abnegation background, but have heard lots about them, mostly from Marlene and Shauna. Scavenger hunts could be considered 'luxuries' which would explain why I never had any growing up.

I pick up the box off of the table and hold it, not opening it until instructed to. Luckily it isn't that heavy at all, so it shouldn't be much of a hassle to bring along on the hunt.

I reread the note a couple of times and think about what it's telling me to do. ''Go to the place that reflects your face?" After thinking about it for a while I think of a mirror.

I run into the bathroom off of the living room and look at the mirror. No clue. I then run into the second bathroom, the one off of our bedroom, and see a small piece of paper, similar to the first one, tucked behind the glass pane.

I grab the note and open it, revealing a clue similar to the one before:

"In the box you previously found are some nice clothes to wear ,
