^This was suppose to be a GIF but it didn't work right when I was adding it to the chapter
-Chapter 28~ The Fire -
"Camera 17 looks fine." I announce, glancing at the monitor screen. I grab my water bottle from where it is sitting next to the computers and take a sip.
"All of the camera on my end look good as well." Tobias confirms, glancing at the screens he's suppose to be watching.
"Yeah, same." Zeke agrees.
I turn in my chair slightly and look up towards a clock above the door. The hands of the clock move, signifying an old minute has passed and a new hour has began.
4:00
We have exactly an hour left of work. Only one dreadful hour of staring at computer screens left. Thank God.
"Oh, look. It seems as if Al has just arrived from Factionless and has decided to grab lunch with Lynn and Maxon." Zeke says, pointing a finger at his screen. Sure enough Al, Lynn, and Maxon are headed into the cafeteria. I watch as they sit down and grab some food.
"This is all so creepy." I mutter.
"What?" Tobias asks, not hearing me clearly.
"This is so creepy," I restate. "Even though I'm in the control room almost everyday, I always seem to forget how protected Dauntless is. How we're always being watched. This just reminded that me that even when we do the most innocent things like grab lunch or go shopping or head to the doctors, people are still always watching."
"I know what you mean." Tobias says. Zeke nods his head in agreement.
The three of us wait for another twenty minutes, talking about random stuff and seeing if anything exciting will happen, which sadly doesn't.
"What the hell?" Zeke starts. Before he can finish his sentence, Tobias cuts him off.
"What?" Tobias asks.
"What the hell is Lauren doing in front of your door," He asks. "For some reason she was by your apartment. Luckily she's gone now."
"Are you sure she was by our apartment? Maybe she was just walking down the hallway or something?" I ask, not wanting to believe that Lauren did something mad.
"I'm pretty sure. She seemed to look as if she had been in your apartment or something." Zeke continues.
"What?" Tobias asks, his face showing a mix of shock and confusion.
"I'm sure it was nothing." I say, trying to convince myself nothing's wrong. I can tell that I didn't sound so certain, though, by the way the boys look at me.
"I'm going to go check it out just incase." Tobias says, stepping out of his chair and heading towards the door.
I glance at the clock and see that we have less than forty minutes left of work.
"I'm coming, too." I say, springing out of my chair and joining Tobias.
"No, don't." He says, gesturing that I sit back down and get back to work. "It might not even be anything to worry about. Plus I don't want you to get hurt or in trouble. Stay here, I'll be fine."
I'm about to protests, but I sit back down in the chair, realizing it's useless and if anything bad happens, I'll be able to see from the monitors and come help as fast as I can.
"You're right, it's probably no big deal." I say. I don't fully believe that everything is fine, but I think it's best not to get to worked up about what could possible be nothing.
