Somin and Mia
School has barely started and I already need a break.
Somin was eating her ramen soup sprawled on the sofa in a black, see-through shirt that showed a dark green dress with green pine needles dotting the fabric.
Since Mia got back from her lesson the atmosphere got tense. No "Hi" or "Hello" rang through the apartment as usual, only the sounds of the shower betrayed her presence.
"Something happened?" Somin asked the unusually pensive roommate, when she emerged from the bathroom, clothed comfortably.
"Hard day," Mia said. "Can we have a wine together?" she offered, wanting to fully talk the situation out.
"Alright." Somin patted her back.
"I'll be there in a sec," Mia said and Somin nodded, seeing such a weird sadness in the dancer's eyes.
Somin's anxiety peaked seeing Mia's unusual behavior.
"Seems like you're not the only one single here anymore," Mia started when she sat closer to Somin on the sofa taking a glass of wine from her.
"What?" Somin's eyes almost fell out of their sockets.
Mia tugged on the hem of her black dress, "I ended things with Teho, it..." She moved her head in discomfort, trying to relax her tense shoulders and neck. "..it wasn't a good fit after all."
"You ended it?" Somin was curious.
"Strangely enough, he seemed to think the same," Mia thought out loud. "I guess it was in the air."
"I'll try to stay friends so we can hang out like before," Mia stated. "He wanted to keep our traditions too."
"Is that even possible?" Somin honestly asked.
"I don't really know, but you're friends with him too, right? I don't want to make you feel weird around us." Mia sipped her wine and Somin got closer to her.
"You don't have to push it," Somin said, comforting her and brushing her shoulder.
"I think I could save this falling apart relationship and I need to see it can be done," Mia retorted, thinking of Ara.
If this works I can face her again. Mia hoped.
"How do you feel?" Somin asked.
Mia watched Somin's expression and tugged the strain of her hair behind her ear.
"Don't be too worried for me," she said. "Only thing I fear is the same as you did," she let her in, being glad her friend would understand.
"To see him with somebody else," Somin said the dreaded sentence.
"So I have to find somebody new sooner," Mia opted for a joke, shifting uncomfortably.
"But even with the new boy, it'll still be weird seeing Teho with somebody new, right?" Somin asked, her heart sinking.
