Somin and Junu
The party moved to the living room where they stood as models for each other. Having an alarm clock set for an hour, letting the peroxide deal with the rest of a pink shade and Junu's chocolate brown. The artist friends made a series of studies. Arms, details in the face, legs. It was all serious, sober, and foremost fun. The young boy noticed her jewelry.
"Pretty," he commented.
"Gift from Mia's," Somin explained. "It works a bit like a dreamcatcher."
"Does it help you sleep well?" Junu asked.
"No, but it does remind me to not do stupid shit," she smiled.
"No jewelry could help you with that," the young artist said. "That should always be your own doing." His sentiment rang too close to home.
"You're probably right," Somin said pensively.
"But I do get the need to have a safety token," he said, thinking about his changing habit.
The troubled paintress felt much better art-wise, the presence of her friend made her doubt the strokes less and she felt the flow slowly coming back as he encouraged her more with the right observations.
"Try to soften the edges," or "Don't rely on an eraser that much, just make another one," he offered.
Somin looked down on Junu as he knelt on the floor where they fixed their papers and his strokes brought her features to life. Hypnotized by how his process was different she couldn't take her eyes off it.
"Can you straighten your leg more, please? Is it alright?" He touched her thigh and positioned it as he wanted.
Junu chose pencils which were his favorite and colored some of his studies with soft pastels. His eyes were focused as he rendered her skin to the tiniest details, silver foil rustling when he moved to look at her.
Every 15 minutes Somin checked in the first strain she'd bleached on his head. Tugging it lightly to see if it still holds.
Jeez, what if he goes bold?
What if I go bold? Hmm, nothing, it'll be a statement for sure.
Wine slowly did its magic to her mood with a second glass filled to the brim.
Junu only sipped here and there a few times out of curiosity, although he found the courage and asked for a small glass himself, finding the sweet beverage soothing.
I don't wanna get in more trouble by being drunk. Still, it loosened him up more.
I had never felt this way before.
"You do have some stash in here," the young boy commented warily on the full fridge of bottles.
"Ya! It's not just mine. Teho and Mia use it too," she argued for herself.
