Levi's face went dead straight. He took his arm from Hange and leaned in, his hands on the table. "It's not a proposition, dick. There is only one choice. You do what I say." He pointed to the envelope. "Time for you to figure out who's boss."
Not much later, Levi and Hange stepped out of the circle booth. With a stern look, Levi stood in front of the professor who was haggard and beaten. Paper clipped to the damning pictures, he'd included detailed instructions of the sentence Levi had passed down. Hange's father muttered through the whole thing, his body trembling.
The man sputtered, his eyes bulging out. "I'll get you for this, you piece of shit."
Levi leaned down and smiled in his face. "No you won't." Nodding to the envelope, he said, "I expect to see all of the accounts created and the funds deposited by the end of the week...three days."
Hange gasped.
The older man coughed and rubbed his forehead.
Levi leaned against the table that the professor still sat at. He crossed his arms and frowned. "You'll be fine from here on, but if we catch you stepping out of line again, we'll send the video to the police."
Hange's father stood and held the envelope out. evidence that he did know who the boss was.
"Keep it," Levi said. "We have our own copies." He cocked his head to the side. "How's it feel to be at the mercy of someone more powerful than you?" His eyes glowered at the man. "Get used to it, pig."
Hange stood still behind Levi shaking at his boldness and put her hand on his shoulder for support. She was still so terrified of her father's power. Her hand trembled, but Levi nodded.
"One more thing." He grabbed Hange's hand and squeezed. "You don't talk to her or call or text. You will never see her again. You've given her a lifetime's worth of misery." Levi turned and brought her hand down to hold it. "She's free now." A quiet hiccup sob fell from her.
Hange's father let a long breath out. He looked at Hange like she was a ghost. She was paper thin and beat up, but she was protected by a demon. Somewhere deep inside of his fat belly, he might have felt the twinge of regret sitting like a stone, but he was too wrapped up in his own demise.
Levi and Hange walked out into the moist night air. They walked in silence the long way back to the dorm. By the time they got back, Hange was exhausted from her little outing. She stumbled into the room to her bed and stood stock still. There was a gleaming new set of drum sticks laying across her pillow.
She whirled around to face the man in the doorway. He just watched for her reaction. "Levi," she whispered, looking back and forth between her bed and his face.
He shrugged his shoulders, his hands deep in his pockets.
"I don't know how to play the drums."
"Sure you do." He shoved off the wall, "Besides, your fucking pencils and chop sticks are driving me fucking batty. Time you start doing the real thing."
Hange's face was frozen in shock. "You really think I can play the drums?"
"Yup," he answered, shedding his hoodie and laying down on his bed. He put his arms behind his head.
"Really? I only know how to play songs from the radio...and the songs you play with me. It's not real playing." They sat down on her bed across from Levi.
