It's 2pm, which means all the children and Lamonte are coming back home. Mary makes sure to tidy up the house before they arrived. She didn't make any food for them to chow on, cooking the breakfast earlier did take most of her time. Plus she didn't know what to make for dinner. They just have to eat leftovers for today.
The school bus arrived, all the kids at the Ellis boulevard got off and went to their homes. Ashley, Ellie, and Tom all walked together to get home so that everyone was safe and no one gets lost. Ellis Boulevard is a huge neighborhood with a lot of houses. So it can be confusing for a child to know which house is which. Thankfully, they all made it home safely. Mary noticed her children coming and opened the door for them.
"Welcome back home my wonderful daughters and son, how was school today?" She asked, giving all of them a warm hug.
"School was super ultra mega booooooring!" Ashley exaggerated.
"I swear, this pikin! It could not have been that boring." Mary tried her hardest to not get angry and laugh at the same time.
"The amount of times I fell asleep was insane!" She said, continuing to exaggerate.
"Well, looks like you have to sleep a lot earlier in bed since you keep on falling asleep at school." Mary challenged her child.
"Mom!" She cried out.
"Don't 'mom' me! You made your bed, now you have to lay in it." Mary showing off her authority over Ashley. Her daughter stormed off the her room, huffing and puffing with her arms crossed and lips pouting.
"You better switch your attitude real quick before I get a twig on you!" She threatened. Ashley slammed the door loudly.
"Kam get yu pikin lord bifo a deal wit am!" She said to herself quietly, translating to "Come get your child lord before I deal with her!"
Lamonte finally showed, unlocked the front door. Mary got excited seeing her husband back from work, even though she has no idea that he did not go to work today.
"Everyone come outside, I need to show you all something." He called out. Everyone except Ashley went outside.
"Where's Ashley?" He asked.
"She's in her room, being a grumpy pants." Tom said, imitating Ashley's attitude.
"Let me call her" he said, pulling out his phone and dialing his daughter's number. She picked it up by the third ring. He put the phone on speaker so that everyone can hear.
"Hello dad..." She answered with a monotone and unenthusiastic voice.
"Ashley, what's wrong?" He asked, trying to get to the bottom of the problem.
"Mom is mad at me" she replied. He looks at his wife and she stands there waiting for him to speak to everyone again.
"Why is she mad at you?" He asked.
"She was lecturing me about school because I said school was boring today. I wasn't saying that I don't like school. School is good and I have good grades. All I'm saying is that today at school was boring. She didn't have to get mad at me." She explained.
"It's alright Ashley. Your mother isn't mad at, isn't that right?" He asked his wife. She let out a sigh and rolled her eyes.
"No sweetie, I'm not mad at you. It did bother me when you told me that, but at least you were honest and I'm glad you take school seriously. I forgive you!" Mary sincerely apologized.
"Thank you mom. I'm sorry for what I said. I understand how important school is. Didn't mean to cause an argument." Ashley apologized.
"That's okay. I still love you!" She told her daughter.
"Love you too!" Ashley said.
"I'm glad that's settled. Come downstairs, I need to show something to everyone." He said, she hanged up the phone and ran faster than The Flash and Usain Bolt combined.
"Wow, that was fast!" Even Lamonte was impressed by how quick she got here.
"She's a runner, she's a track star!" Ellie sang 'Trackstar' by Mooski, making a joke about the way she ran outside.
"That song is old!" Ashley laughed.
"What song?" Mary asked, trying to figure out what they're joking about.
"I will explain to you later. Let's focus on Dad's surprise!" Ellie said.
