"Listen up, I got great news to tell you all!" Ms. Harden got the attention of her stage play students, which Ashley was a part of.
"I wonder what's going on." Ashley said to her friend, Ava.
"Same here, girl!" Amethyst, another one of her classmate friends said. All the students gave their teacher all the attention.
"The last musical performance we did of The Addams Family went so well and garnered so much attention that the makers of 'The Christmas Carol" stage play want us to lead at Madison Square Garden theater in New York." She revealed. In a split second, the entire auditorium erupted with cheers, squeals, and hollering.
Ashley could not believe what she just heard. She always dreamt of going to New York. Visiting all the important and beautiful places. Having the time of her life. But knowing that the entire stage play are not only going to New York, but headlining the most important Christmas plays of all time, her dreams were coming true.
"I know this is amazing news. But there's more I need to tell you are." Ms. Harden said.
"What more can you tell us?" Danny blurted out, people chuckled and agreed with him.
"We're going to have auditions to see who will get what part. I need to hand you all permission slips so that the school and Madison square garden theater can have permission from your parents that it's safe for you all to go." The teacher explained.
Ashley was still excited to go to New York, but she was worried that her parents might not allow her to go. However, she does not want to miss this opportunity of a life time. So she definitely has to tell her parents today after school is done.
"When does audition start? When does the play begin?" Ashley curiously asked.
"First, I need your permission slips by next week since that's the first day of December. After I get everything, those who turned in their permission slips will be eligible to audition. We have to arrive at New York on December 21st to do more practice, since that's when Christmas break begins. The play starts exactly on December 25th, Christmas Day." She revealed.
Ashley was amazed by this. She wanted to get the leading role of Ebenezer Scrooge, since she always dreamt of being the star of a play, tv show, or movie. Plus, she had not seen a woman let alone a Sierra Leonean woman play a major role in a American story. She wanted to be the first or at least contribute.
"I'm going to hand you all permission slips right now. Make sure to turn it in next week, December first. I'm not taking anymore after that date. Is that clear?" She asked her students.
"Yes, Ma'am!" All the students said in unison. The teacher did hand them their permission slips. Ashley took a look at the paper and was impressed by the design of it. Her excitement was through the roof and she could not wait to let her parents know.
