As I walked into the decorated ball room, my eyes landed on a familiar face. I almost jumped for joy when I seen my father talking to a group of men in the corner. I rushed to his side and gave him a hug. "Woah, there you are." He said and broke the hug. He looked at me for a second and almost started to sob. I gave him another hug, which he took in this time. He placed his glass down and wrapped his two arms around me. He made sure to not mess up my hair in the process.
Once the hug broke, he looked at me with the biggest smile. "Your mother would've loved to see you right now."
I smiled. "I bet she does see me, dad. I think she would be proud of you too, finally taking a break from all that working."
He smiled and lightly hit my arm. "You go on and have fun, okay? Come to me when you want to go home."
I nodded and said my goodbyes before walking away. I looked around the now crowded room for someone, anyone I knew. I looked on the dance floor and seen Meg dancing with a man. He looked like how she described, so I just smiled and walked on by. I soon caught Jo trying to hide in the corner. I shook my head and walked towards her. "What are you doing hiding in the corner? This is a party, you know."
"A party that is basically forcing women to find a husband." She snapped back, making me smile.
"Come on, dance with me."
"I thought that boy Alex was supposed to take your first dance."
"I think he'll be fine for now." I held out my hand in front of her. "Come on."
She looked at my hand then back at me. I knew she was hesitate and I didn't mind. She put her hand into mine and I led her to the dance floor. The music was fast paced, so we didn't have to slow dance together. Jo seemed to be annoyed at first, but then she began to loosen up. We both twirled around the dance floor, laughing and having fun. We soon ran into Meg and guy she was dancing with. They joined in with us and we soon caused a whole circle to be formed on he dance floor. Everyone was laughing and smiling, having a good time with each others presences.
Once the music started to slow down, everyone grabbed their partner and started to slow dance. I stood beside Jo, watching everyone dance with such grace. I even watched Meg smile up at the man she was dancing with. She seemed to be at awe with him, which seemed to be a good sign. Time passed and I was still beside Jo. She had sat down, already done with everything and I remained standing. Laurie soon approached me and stood on the open side of me.
"Where is Alex?" He asked close to my ear due to the loud music.
I smiled and shrugged my shoulders. "I am not sure. He seems to be running late." I looked at him. "Why aren't you out there dancing with Jo?" I whispered.
"Because I don't dance and most certainly wouldn't dance with Jo."
"Now why is that?"
"She can't dance. I have tried but she steps on my shoes every chance she gets."
