"I don't understand. Why must we go to Marmee's today?" Lincoln asked.
"Because Jo invited us over. You haven't seen them that much and I think it is necessary. We have a few more days until Christmas."
"I just want to read."
I looked at him as he pouted. I looked around and made sure I had all three of my kids. Annemarie was holding on to Ashton's hand while Lincoln walked alongside them and me. He was sort of in the middle. If I am being honest, Jo, Amy, and Meg have been planning a small play for the kids. They wanted to make them smile after the sudden leave of the ball. Lincoln has admitted to me that he enjoyed it. I was a bit surprised because he usually wanted to read.
I knocked on the door loudly and it opened right away. I smile when I see Marmee. She looked from me to the kids and a smile plastered on her face. "Oh my! I've missed you three little ones. Come on in, it's cold out here." She rushed us inside and I took off my shoes before helping Annemarie and Ashton with theirs. They all rushed in their own direction while I stood up straight and stood with Marmee. She led me to the kitchen where she gave me a cup of tea. We both sat down.
"How are you feeling?" I asked her as I spun the spoon around in the tea.
She smiled. "I am doing well. Are you and your family still coming over for Christmas?"
"Of course. Ashton loves it here. Annemarie loves seeing Laurie and Lincoln loves hanging out with Jo. They love to talk about books. I brought them here today because Jo, Amy, and Meg have something planned for them."
"Oh, that is delightful. What is it?"
I shrugged. "I'm not sure. Jo had told me they were planning something but wouldn't tell me what."
"It may be a surprise for you as well."
I nodded and smiled. "I suppose it is." I took a sip of my tea and placed the cup back down. "Do you think I would be a wonderful writer?"
She gave me a look and placed her cup down in front of her. "I don't think, I know. You're a beautiful writer and anyone could see that."
I smiled. "Thank you."
"Why do you ask?"
I sighed and looked down at my cup. "I got offered to go to Paris and help a wonderful writer write a new book. I talked to father about it and he said it was a wonderful idea, but he would have to talk to Ellie about it. You're the second person I've told since I was asked."
"What about traveling and money? What about the kids?"
"The person who offered it said she would pay for everything. I was hesitant at first because she was a complete stranger, but she told me something that just blew me away."
"What was that?"
"Her name is Mary Jane Holmes, Marmee. The famous writer that is a woman."
"Oh how wonderful! You should do it! It would be wonderful."
