I leaned against the boys door and watched them play around with their toys. I just got done making them breakfast and needed to start the soup. Father had brought them back toys from last night. Now they wouldn't stop playing with them. I just smiled and made my way back downstairs. Father had Annemarie in his hands while Ellie started helping me with the soup. Alex soon arrived and went into the kitchen. "Are you making the soup?"
I looked at him and nodded. "Yeah. Ellie is going to help me so it will be done faster than expected. Can you go persuade the boys to put down the toys and get dressed. We will be leaving soon."
He nodded and ran up the stairs. I smiled and turned to Ellie. "You remember how to do it, right?"
She smiled. "Of course honey. Do you need to go somewhere?"
"I need to get some bread as a gift for Marmee. Do you think I could go into the bakery and get some? I will pay for it, I promise."
She nodded. "I know you will. Take the keys." She handed me her keys and smiled.
"Thank you Ellie. Tell Alex and the boys I'll be back." I went to my father and kissed Annemarie on the head. I then kissed my fathers cheek and went on my way. It was runner outside, but the cold still made it unbearable. I made sure to grab a huge coat before walking out. I hurried to get into any warm building. When I made it to the town, I practically ran to the bakery and unlocked it. It was warmer since Ellie just closed it and the stoves helped with the warmness. I took out my money for two loafs of bread and went behind the counter to get it.
Once I got the bread, I placed the coins on top of a piece of paper telling Ellie it is my money. I finally got out and locked the door back. I made sure it was locked and the started walking back home.
"Alex!" I heard a voice call, making me turn around.
"Laurie?" I held my hand over my eyes to see him walking towards me with his smile. "What are you doing in town?"
"Marmee told me to get some milk."
I laughed. "Being a delivery boy I see."
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. You got bread?"
"Oh yeah. It is supposed to be a gift for Marmee for allowing all of us over."
"How sweet. I think she will love to have Rudolph bring her some bread."
I hit his arm lightly. "This is why I find you irritating."
"Then why do you hang around me?"
I rolled my eyes. "I need to get home. I'll see you in a few hours."
He smiled. "Yes you will. Can't wait for the soup."
"Of course you can't. Bye Delivery boy."
"Bye Bye Rudolph."
