Alex and I walked through the forest trying to look for some acorns on the ground. We weren't sure why Marmee wanted them, but she insisted we get some. It was cold and snow started falling. I hated snow more than I hated anything else. Even though I was wearing a dress with extra layers, I could feel the cold air seeping through it, making me shiver as we looked intensly around the ground.

"Marmer is an odd woman. Why would she need acorns?" Alex asked as he bent down to the floor and moved some snow and leaves around.

I shrugged. "If I knew, I would tell you, but I don't."

He stood up straight and sighed. "Do you think this will be enough? She didn't really put a number on it."

I looked in his hand and counted twenty four acorns. I shrugged and nodded, not really sure. "I am just going to say yes so we can go back inside."

"Are you cold?"

I looked at him. "Oh no. I feel very warm as it is snowing and winter."

He rolled his eyes. "No need to be like that. The cold makes you so grumpy."

"Then we better get inside before it makes me hit you across the head."

He nodded. "Time to go." He grabbed my arm and we trialed through the snowy forest and rushed back tot he house. When we got in, we cleaned the snow off our boots and made our way to the kitchen. Alex placed the acorns on the counter and we looked at Marmee who was decorating a cake.

"We got a total of twenty four acorns. We hope that is enough because I don't think I can go back outside." I shivered, trying to let the warm air sink in.

She turned and smiled. "Of course. Thank you both." She picked them up and turned back around from us. Alex and I looked at each other confused then shrugged it off. We went to the living room where most of the people were. My father held Annemarie as she was asleep in his arms. She was a heavy sleeper because with all the talking Amy was doing, I would've woke up. But she remained sound asleep in his arms. Annemarie only really loved certain people. She didn't like Alex, which always made me wonder why. She loved Father and Laurie. She also loved me, but that is probably because I feed her more than anyone and I am always around her.

I sat between Jo and Amy, smiling as I watched Laurie play around with a sword for the boys. He acted as if he was taking out pirates and the boys seemed to love it. Even Lincoln was laughing along with them. I couldn't help but feel more happiness rise in me. I watched as Laurie handed Lincoln the sword and started to talk to him. I assumed he was trying to teach him how to use it. It wasn't real, it was a small wooden sword, so I didn't have a problem with it. Lincoln nodded every time Laurie spoke and did one simple action. Soon Ashton tried it out, making me smile.

"He is good with kids." Jo said form beside me.

I smiled. "It surprises me too." I looked at Jo who smiled at me.
