I held onto the hands of Ashton and Lincoln as we began walking the large, marble hall. There was guards that stood tall in their silver amour. Ashton looked at them in awe while Lincoln took a quick glance before looking at the main doors of the ballroom. This had made me realize that he had never been in here before. He may have seen people dress all nice, but he has never been apart of it, none of them have. Which is why I knew this was a good idea. They needed to see something new and other than the house. They had to live once.
Once we walked closer, the loud sound of music blared through the hallways, echoing louder and louder. We walked through the door and the music and lights hit us like a train. Everything was bright and colorful. There were people laughing and having conversations on the side. Some danced gracefully around the dance floor. Ashton and Lincoln both slowly let go of my hand and took a few steps in front of me. They looked around for a moment before looking at each other and smiled. They looked back at me with a sort of hope and happiness in their eyes. This was the start of their journey. I looked at Annemarie who looked at the older women. It was the start of all three of their journeys in the world.
The boys danced with one another on the dance floor, the people around them stopped to watch them. Some of them awed while gave them the eye. It took me a whole lot of power to not go up to them and slap that look off their face. I wouldn't want to get this right taken away from me either. It's the one time women are allowed a somewhat choice with their decisions.
I looked around the ballroom, hoping to see a glimpse of Laurie. I gave up when an hour passed and I bent down, dancing with my two boys. They tried spinning me around, failing it miserably, but either way, we had fun. I dragged my father and Ellie to the dance floor, taking Annemarie from Ellie's arms. I smiled and pointed her eyes in the direction of her Papa and she clapped her hands happily. Maybe she understood the word love from the books I have read to her, but how would she see it. She was happy to see them happy.
"Is that your child?"
I turned to the side to see a random woman I had never seen before. I nodded my head. "Yes she is and so are the boys on the dance floor over there." I pointed at the boys as they danced.
She looked at the boys and smiled before looking back at me. "They seem delightful."
"They truly are. I had taken them in from the street. I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I just allowed them to sleep in an old building while winter approached. It would be unacceptable."
"You are too kind. Don't you write?"
I looked at her confused. "I do. How did you know?"
She smiled. "Your father, Ray, had shown me some of you work. I was surprised to see such a supportive dad when it came to his daughters success."
"Because todays society only cares for wealth and the image of perfection?"
She nodded. "Precisely. Do you wish to resume, well, I should say, do you wish to further expand your writing?"
