I sat in front of the fireplace of Marmee's house and read Pride and Prejudice. It had been days since I've spoken to my father and Alex. I felt bad, but I wasn't sure of what I would say when I seen them. I had made sure to tell everyone else, so they weren't in the dark. After I had told them, they haven't brought it up since. I couldn't help but cry myself to sleep at night, thinking of my mother and the things my father had said to me. I knew he wasn't right, but it still hurt that he would say that.

I heard footsteps approaching behind me and seen Laurie. I hadn't spoken to him besides when I was explaining what had happened. He took a seat in the chair beside me and looked at the fire. He didn't say anything, so I continued to read. The book had opened up a spot in my heart, making it one of my favorites.

"Enjoying it?" He finally asked.

"I suppose I am." I didn't want to admit it was my favorite when he recommended it.

He nodded his head and looked at me then the book. "Page 256? You're a fast reader."

I nodded and didn't say anything else.

He sighed. "Look, I apologize for what happened a few days ago. I didn't want to ruin your day by any means."

I looked up from the book and at the fire. I made sure I kept my place in the book and closed it, looking at Laurie. He was slightly closer than before, my heart racing. I couldn't understand my heart, but ignored it. "Did you tell Alex he didn't deserve me?"

He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it. He sighed and went back into his chair. "I did say that, but only because I thought you deserved better. Alex isn't the best guy. No guy should talk about someone without talking to the main topic. He hangs out with the wrong people and I didn't want you to get involved in that. He could be a good guy, but from what I have seen, them people he hangs out with will ruin him."

I looked at him, confused. "What do you mean by wrong people?"

He moved his head to look at me. His hair was in front of his eyes and he moved it with his hands, revealing his eyes. I had never noticed his eyes until this moment.

"The group he hangs out with cause trouble around town."

I sighed and stood up from the chair. I turned towards him. "Show me."

"What?"

"Show me where these people are."

He stood up. "I don't know if that would help anything."

I crossed my arms. "Laurie, take me where they are. if my father is going to marry his mother, I won't allow him to ruin his life by hanging with the wrong people. Now, show me where they are or I will make sure you will never get a bite of my soup ever again." His eyes widened and I nodded my head. "I just went there."
