TODAY WAS THURSDAY, which meant that it was date day. Courtney had been thinking about it ever since she first got Jesse's message. Being distracted by another person, let alone a boy, was extremely out of character for her, but she didn't mind. She found herself not totally opposed to the fact that she couldn't get Jesse St James out of her mind.

Humming, the girl applied some mascara to her eyelashes. She looked into the mirror and smiled, she liked what she saw. Courtney wore her favourite white sweater and paired it with the prettiest skirt she owned— she looked like a daydream.

Hearing her phone buzzing on the nightstand, the girl picked it up to see who was calling her. It was Jesse. Giggling, she answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, little love. I'm outside," Jesse greeted her. The girl looked out of the window, seeing the older teen standing next to his car. Waving at him, she smiled. The girl could feel butterflies in her stomach. He just got here and you're already feeling this way? Get a grip, Courtney.

Grabbing her purse, the blonde tiptoed down the stairs, hoping that she could quietly slip out of the house unnoticed. That was not what happened, however, as the last step on the stairs made a loud creak when she stepped on it.

"And where do you think you're going at this hour, young lady?" Sue calls out from behind her daughter. It was eight— still early, but tomorrow was a school day.

Freezing in place, the girl sighed. She had been busted. Deciding to just tell her mother the truth, the girl turns around.

"I'm, uh, going on a date. We met a couple of weeks ago when I was visiting Carmel High for Dakota Stanley. He found my Facebook page and we've been talking ever since. His name is Jesse. He asked me out," Courtney admitted. She was afraid to look up, not wanting to see the disappointment on her mother's face.

Sue had always told her daughter that she should not waste her time on guys, and she's been living off of that her entire life. Until Jesse. He shook that up for her and she can't find herself being mad at him for it. Nor did she want it to stop, but she'd never admit that out loud.

"You're sneaking out to go on a date? Awe, my baby's growing up!" the older woman gushed, pulling her daughter into a hug. Sue was in fact, mad, but she decided she would let it slide this one time.

"Wait, you're not mad?" Courtney asked, lifting her head from its place on her mother's chest. The girl was sure that her mother would kill her, then resurrect her only to kill her again.

"Of course, I am. You're grounded for two weeks. But this is your first date, so I am letting you have fun. Just be sure to be back before midnight. You have school tomorrow," Sue told her. Beaming at her mom, Courtney squealed.

"Thank you so much, mom! I'll be back by ten!" the girl exclaimed, rushing out of the door.

"She won't be back by ten," the mother sighed, crossing her hands over her chest.
