"SO YOU'RE TELLING ME that those crazy people forced you to take performance-enhancing drugs to level out the playing field? Your choir teacher should be ashamed. For the first time in centuries, he's created an environment so hostile that teammates have to resort to cheating to get the spotlight. I'm disappointed," Jesse sighed, wincing as Courtney gave his hair a particularly hard tug. They were sitting on the ground, a pile of skincare products surrounding them.
The two were having their weekly spa night, something they incorporated into their schedules as a way to relax and get to know each other. He would never admit it, but Jesse was the one to propose the idea for this particular tradition. He was a big and strong man, after all. Well, as big and strong as a man could be with a green face mask and a pink Disney princess headband on. His hair was being taken hostage by Courtney. The girl saw how frizzy it was, so she took it upon herself to rehabilitate it.
"I know that both you and my mom think that I should find a new glee club, but I can't. For once in my life, I've finally found where I belong. Call me selfish, but I want to hold on to this feeling for a little bit longer. Even if it sounds completely bonkers," the girl confessed. It was true— though an unconventional place to feel a sense of belonging, the McKinley High Glee Club did have a sort of charm to it. The New Directions was refreshing. It was a place where anyone and everyone could express themselves freely. Nevertheless, everything good had to come with repercussions.
Slushies.
Those ice-cold, slobbery drinks were the bane of the New Directions' existence. It was a tradition for high schoolers at the top of the food chain to ruthlessly poke fun at those below them, but no amount of teasing would ever compare to the feeling of getting drenched by one of those two-dollar-a-cup drinks.
Of course, Courtney never got a slushy to the face. Everyone knew who her mother was— they knew if they were to ever lay even a pinkie on the girl, they'd have an angry Sue Sylvester chasing after them (and a stampede of angry cheerleaders led by Santana and Quinn).
"Hey. I can hear you thinking. Mind sharing with the rest of the class what's got your attention? You should be focusing on me, you know. I am the love of your life, after all," Jesse teased, wiggling his eyebrows at the girl. She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"As if! I was thinking about Quinn. She's going to have a hard time going forward after getting kicked off the Cheerios. I know how much cheerleading means to her. I'm worried for her, you know?" Courtney replied. She noticed the poorly concealed eye-bags and bloodshot eyes Quinn had been sporting ever since news of her pregnancy came to Sue.
Courtney had begged her mother to let the older blonde stay on the team, but alas, her efforts were futile. Sue told her daughter that letting Quinn stay on the team would only bring bad luck. They lived in Ohio, for God's sake. Everyone had the mental capacity of a teaspoon. None of them would ever accept the fact that a girl got impregnated out of wedlock. Though she didn't agree, Courtney understood. If news of this broke out, it would destroy the Cheerios' reputation.
