It was the next day, Christmas Eve. You woke up and reached beside you. Billy's side of the bed was empty. You yawned sitting up in bed. "Babe?" You called out. You got no response. You stood up and walked to the living room.

There was a note taped to the door. 'Needed one more thing for tomorrow. Be back later ~Billy'. You wondered what that could be about and went to make coffee. You were pouring some cream into your coffee when the phone rang.

"Hello?" You answered the phone. "Y/n, hey," Eddie's voice came through the receiver. Shit, Eddie. "Eddie you can't be calling here..." you started to say but he cut you off. "I know, I'm sorry it's just my uncle isn't answering and I didn't know who else to call.." he trailed off.

"Eddie, are you okay?" You said concerned. His voice sounded upset. "Nah, man, I kinda got picked up by the cops." Fuck. "What? Eddie what were you doing?" You questioned him.

"Just a small deal, nothing serious. Look I don't have long and um, I know that this has nothing to do with you and I'm sorry for calling but is there any way you could try to find Wayne for me? I wouldn't ask if it wasn't an emergency." He said talking quickly.

"Yeah, I just need one more minute, man." You heard him saying to the officer. "Eddie, I don't know.." you started. "Time's up sweetheart, you'll have to talk to your boyfriend another time." A deep voice came through the phone. Click.

Well shit. You and no idea how long it would be until Billy returned. Not to mention you didn't have a car. You couldn't just leave Eddie in there. It was Christmas Eve. And regardless of everything else, you still cared for him.

You grabbed a piece of paper and scribbled 'Needed some fresh air. Went for a walk. Be back soon. Love you, y/n.' You taped it over Billy's note, grabbed your jacket and took off towards the trailer park.

It was freezing outside which made the walk seem so much longer. You finally made it to Eddie's trailer. You knocked on the door and waited. Nothing. You knocked louder this time. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming" you heard a man's voice.

The door swung open to a man you assumed was Eddie's Uncle. "Uh, hi. Are you Wayne?" You said a little uncomfortable. "That depends on who's askin," he responded lighting up a cigarette. "I'm a.. um.. a friends of Eddie's. He asked me to come find you."

"You must be y/n. You're just as pretty as he said you were." Wayne said flicking his cigarette. "Oh, um, thank you." You smiled a small smile at him. "Eddie kinda got himself in some trouble." You started. You weren't really sure how to say that he was in jail.

"Tell me the boy isn't down at the station again." Wayne shook his head, smirking slightly. It seemed very casual to him which made you giggle. Your hand came up to cover your mouth. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." You said quickly. "But yes, he is in fact down at the station... again."

"Alright, let me grab my coat and we'll be on our way." Wayne said. "Oh, I really should get home." You said quickly. "It won't take long. And I know Eds would love to see you." He said smiling. You hesitated. "Okay, sure." You eventually gave in.

You pulled up to the police station with Wayne. "Be back in a jiffy." He said getting out of the truck. You nodded at him and smiled politely. What were you doing here? You sat there for about 10 minutes thinking about everything that could go wrong, when you saw him walk out the door.

Wayne had his arm around Eddie's shoulder. He said something to him that made Eddie look towards the truck. Eddie smiled and gave you a wave. You gave him a little wave back. You scooted to the middle seat as Eddie and Wayne reached the truck. It was a tight squeeze and as Eddie slid in, you were pressed against each other.

"Hey, you." He said. "Hey there, jailbird." You smirked at him. He laughed and reached over and grabbed your hand. You looked up at him. "Thanks, for today. It means a lot." He said quietly. "Sure. It's no big deal." You said looking down at your hands.

"Oh, sorry," Eddie said pulling his hand back. "It's okay," you said softly. "So y/n, can you stay for dinner?" Wayne said. "Oh, I really can't. Thank you so much for the offer though. Maybe another time."

"I'll hold you to that," Wayne said smiling as he pulled into the parking lot where Eddie's van was parked. "Need a ride?" Eddie asked you, you nodded. You said goodbye to Wayne and hopped out of the truck. You followed Eddie to his van.

"I'll drop you down the road from your house." He said climbing in the drivers seat. "Sure, thanks." You said rubbing your arms to keep warm. You had a jacket on but it was so cold. Eddie reached into the back of the van and pulled out a blanket, handing it to you. You smiled at him. "Thank you."

The drive was kinda quiet. You had a lot you wanted to say and you think Eddie did too but neither of you knew how to start. He pulled over just down the road from your place. You knew you needed to hurry and get back before Billy but you didn't move.

"You doin okay, y/n?" Eddie asked looking over at you. "Yeah.. yeah I'm okay." You said, your body unconsciously scooting slightly closer to him. "I know I shouldn't say this but I do really miss you." Eddie whispered, sliding towards you.

"Eddie.." you said softly. He leaned in to kiss you.  His hand on your cheek. Your face moved towards his instinctively. "Wait," you said pulling away before your lips met. "I can't Eddie, I'm sorry." You reached over and opened the van door.

"Y/n, wait. I'm sorry." He called after you. You turned to walk towards your house. You turned the corner and saw Billy's car was still gone. Thank god. You went inside, happy to warm up.
You climbed in bed and covered your head with your blanket and let out a loud groan.

You had been trying so hard to push down anything you felt for Eddie. You kept telling yourself those feelings would just fade. But every time you saw him, you knew you were partially lying to yourself.

But you loved Billy and you were doing everything to make it work. Even if it wasn't easy, you were both trying hard. Sometimes you couldn't help but wonder if you should have to try that hard for love.
