You had called Eddie. It didn't go very well. He was pissed and he didn't want you home. You were mad at yourself but you were also confused. You really loved Eddie. You loved him so much but as soon as Billy's lips touched yours you couldn't control yourself.
You never thought you would see him again and after all these years he just showed up. And you had felt something in your heart as soon as you saw him again. Seeing him with William was something you'd dreamed about. Then his mom dying and seeing him distraught like that, him saying he never stopped loving you. It was all too much.
Surely it was just a heat of the moment thing. All you wanted right now was to go home. To talk to Eddie. To try to explain. But you didn't know how to explain it. You didn't understand it yourself. The front door opened and Billy walked in. His lip was busted and his cheek swollen. "Billy, where the hell did you go?"
"I.. um.. I went to see Eddie." he said looking at his feet. "Did you hurt him?" you jumped up. He shook his head no. "I barely touched the guy, well I got one good hit but he's fine." he mumbled. "What the fuck, Billy? Why did you go there? What did he say?" you said your anxiety through the roof.
"I didn't go there to fight him. I went there to talk to him. To tell him to let you come home but he.." he stopped and looked at you gently. You walked over to him. "What did he say, Billy?" you could tell he was being weird. He walked back on the porch returning with a suitcase. Your suitcase. Your heart fell.
"Oh." was all you said. "He said you should go with me. To California.. to um.. figure out your feelings." What the fuck? Billy explained to you everything he had said. You wanted to go home but did he have a point?
You sat down on the couch. Your head full of a million different thoughts. Eddie was right. He didn't deserve half of you. He deserved all of you. There was only one thing stopping you from giving him that. Billy. You looked up at him. He was staring at you while you digested the information. You gave him a weak smile. "Okay." you said.
"Yeah?" he said trying to hide his smile. You nodded. "I... I guess." you said standing up. He pulled you in for a hug. "I'm sorry, y/n." he said rubbing your back. You nodded into his chest. "You ready?" he said grabbing the suitcases. "As ready as I'll ever be." you said following him to the car. California, here I come.
You slept on the plane, your head on Billy's shoulder. You were exhausted from crying and thinking and everything really. Billy shook you awake gently. "We're here." he said standing up stretching. You rubbed your eyes and stood up. Billy grabbed your suitcases and you headed off the plane.
You arrived at the hotel and immediately saw there was only one bed. "Sorry.. I had only booked it for me." Billy mumbled. "It's fine." you said going to the bathroom. You sat on the edge of the tub and started crying. This was such a mess.
You cried for a few minutes then stood up and looked at yourself in the mirror. You looked horrible. Billy's mom's funeral was in a few hours. "I'm gonna shower." you yelled out into the room. You started the shower and stepped inside.
You let the water mix with your tears. How did it come to this? You shouldn't be here. You should be home with your family. This was crazy. But Eddie didn't want you there. You had really fucked up. This was it. You had to choose. You had to let one of them go. It wasn't fair to either of them.
You got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around you. You walked out to grab some clothes. Billy sat on the bed. He wiped a tear away from his cheek. You quickly got dressed and went to sit next to him. "It's gonna be okay." you said grabbing his hand.
"I know the situation sucks, but I'm glad you're here with me." he said squeezing your hand. "Me too." you said softly. A couple hours later Billy stood in front of you in a black tux. You reached up tying his tie for him.
He looked down at you. "I don't think I can do this." he said, his voice hoarse. You reached up to touch his cheek. "I'll be right beside you the whole time." He nodded at you. "Well.. I guess it's time to go." he said but his feet didn't move.
You grabbed his hand and leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Bills, you can do this." you said gently pulling him towards the door. He gripped your hand tightly following you out.
You arrived at the church. It was a beautiful place. Billy looked visibly sick the entire time. He never let go of your hand. You watched as people said wonderful things about his mom. He held it together pretty well until they began to lower her casket in the ground. He tensed up and his grip tightened on your hand.
Tears began falling down his face. He turned to you and buried his face in your shoulder. You rubbed his back gently. "I'm ready to go." he said suddenly, wiping his tears. "Billy.." "Y/n, I'm ready to go." he said shortly. "Yeah, okay. Let's go." you said linking your arm in his.
You started walking through the crowd when you saw a familiar face. Billy's dad. Shit. You tried to steer Billy in the other direction but he had already spotted him. He made a beeline through the crowd, pulling you along with him. "Billy.. not here." you said. "What the fuck are you doing here?" he hissed at his dad.
"Billy, good to see you son." his dad smirked. What a piece of shit. "You shouldn't be here." Billy said his voice angry. "She was my wife at one point, Billy. I have every right to be here." his dad said staring Billy in the face. "Billy, let's go." you said trying to pull him away. He shrugged your arm off of him.
"She hated you! You're the reason she left. You treated her like shit. You need to leave!" Billy yelled pushing his dad backwards. "Billy! Not here." you said more sternly. He looked at you. His eyes were full of tears and he was shaking. "This is all bullshit!" he yelled throwing his hands up.
People were staring. "Fuck you!" he said to his dad. "And you, and you!" he shouted at the random people around. "Okay, come on." you said pulling him hard by the arm. He finally went with you. You lit a cigarette and handed it to Billy as you walked to the car.
"Fuck!" he yelled slamming his hands down on the trunk. He was breaking. He kept his hands on the trunk, his head hanging down. You walked behind him and snaked your arms around his waist leaning into his back. "I've got you." you said. He didn't say anything as you held him but he stood straighter and wrapped his arms around yours.
Eventually you got in the car and drove back to the hotel. Billy decided to shower and you went to get some food for the two of you. When you came back, he was asleep in the bed. You crawled over him and laid down turning your head towards him. His face looked angelic as he slept. All the worry and anger swept away.
Completely letting him go was going to be one of the hardest things you've had to do. But you had to do it. You knew Eddie was the one. Your forever. You kissed his lips gently and he sighed in his sleep. You snuggled close to him and closed your eyes, drifting off to sleep.
