The best way out is always through. ~Robert Frost
Luke's POV
I eventually was creeping through the entrance of my house, poking my head in. I finally walked in entirely.
"M-Mum?" I called. When there was no answer I began to wander around. I saw her sitting in the kitchen, reading a book.
"Hi Luke." She greeted, a bitterness to her voice. "Why are you only now getting home?"
"I was watching Ash's practice like always." I said. "Um.. I called your name when I walked in, why didn't you answer?"
"I didn't hear you." My mother said, the edge to her voice did not seem to falter. Which only made me grow weary.
"Mum, I'm sorry about what happened but can you please stop being so mad at me.." I asked as if I was a child. And maybe that would have helped to make my mother see straight, but I don't think I could break the ice she had.
"Luke you are acting irrational," My mother said. "You think that I'm just going to let what you did go without repercussion. I'm very upset with you."
"I-I know..B-But - "
"No buts Luke, I don't want to hear it!" My mother shouted and I took a couple of steps backwards at the raising of her voice. "Leave, Luke."
"M-Mum.." I mumbled. "Where's dad?"
"How the hell should I know?" My mother sighed. "He went out a few hours ago. He hasn't been back since. He left his phone in there so I can't ask either."
"O-Oh.." I said quietly. In this moment I thought about explaining to my mother what actually happened, but then I realized that it would not help anyone. So I turned and walked out of the room.
I laid down on my bed and put a hand up to my throbbing head. The stress was really starting to eat me, and it had only been a day.
There was a weight of being a liar and the feeling that I may never see my mother's love again. Maybe I was overreacting - but she's my rock.
Eventually, I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning. Showered and changed. When I went to see my mother in the kitchen she was absent from her normal spot. In fact she was not anywhere's on the first floor. So I left for school without a word.
When I got there, I passed through the hallway greetings like I did every day. I turned the corner to reach my locker all the same. Dallas was even there per usual.
"Hey mutt." Dallas greeted me with a smug smile.
"What do you want?" I snarled.
"Easy there killer. Put your k-9 teeth away." Dallas chuckled. "Just thought I would get my daily mess out of you."
"Is that what you call it?" I asked.
"Yes. As in, I am making your life into a mess." Dallas laughed as he flicked my temple. "So let me get this straight, alright?"
"What is it?" I asked.
"You're going to come out with us on Sunday, per my request." Dallas smiled.
"Yeah, and?"
"And I want you to be as mean as possible." Dallas said.
"What's the point of that? Why would I do that?" I asked.
"Cause I want to make you out to be a jerk." Dallas shrugged.
"Yes. Point?"
"Or I'm going to have a little.. Messenger whisper in Michael's ear." Dallas said. "That you're up to no good."
