There are two things a person should never be angry at, what they can help, and what they cannot. ~Plato

Luke's POV

I sat on the bed next to Michael for a long time. The sun had set and just when I thought Michael was going to say that he had to leave my name was called.

I walked down the stairs and into the living room to see my mother sitting on the couch, an anxious look on her face as my father stood behind her.

"Oh..You're home." I smiled. "Do you need anything?"

"Your mother said that you had something to tell me." My father said. I nodded.

"Right." I sighed. I swallowed hard, he was not going to like hearing this. "So today at school I..Well I punched another student in the face and was suspended."

"What?" My father asked.

"I hit another student." I said.

"Don't worry though, I took care of it." My mother chimed in.

"What'd you do?" My father turned to my mother.

"I had a long talk with him about how he should not hit other students." My mother said. "I feel like there is no other punishment we should enforce on him."

"Are you..Are you serious?" My father scoffed. "No, no. Luke's a grown man he should know right from wrong." My father looked at me. "If you even are a man at all.."

"Don't talk to him that way!" My mother instantly snapped, standing up from the couch.

"Well I'm just letting him know how I feel!" My father snarled. "And how you are doing an awful job at raising your precious son if this is the way he acts!"

"Luke very rarely acts out!" My mother said. "That boy has been bothering Luke for a long time and Luke took a stand that most are too afraid to do and the school didn't like it!"

"He can't solve his problems with his fists!" My father replied. "It's your fault that he's the way he is!"

"What ever do you mean?" My mother said, confusion lacing her face.

"I know where this is going." I sighed.

"Oh do you now?" My father asked, looking over to me. "Well why don't you remind your mother?"

"Homophobic piece of - "

"Luke!" My mother snapped at me.

"He's going to rip on me for being gay and you know it!" I shouted back. "It's his first defense when he's mad with me!"

"That's not true.." My mother said, choosing her words carefully. "Boys, you both need to stop."

"Oh shut up." My father scoffed.

"Hey don't talk to her that way!" I snapped. "You talk about me needing a lesson in respect, well you need a lesson in how to be a good husband and father!"

"Excuse me!? Your brothers ended up fine!" My father yelled.

"And yet they never visit, I wonder why!" I yelled, taking steps closer to my father. "They hated you! You're an awful man and you don't belong here!"

"Watch your mouth boy!" My father yelled.

"Why should I!? You don't watch yours!" I shouted.

"Luke I'm warning you.. I am in no mood to put up with your childish behavior!"

"Oh you can bite me." I scoffed.

"Luke.." My father snarled.

"What are you gonna hit me?" I asked. Never in my life has anyone besides Dallas laid a hand on me. I expected it to be the same.
