Choi Misun

Everything crumbled beneath my feet in only a few moments.

First I discovered my love could be alive, but since he hasn't come back, even though he started his journey home earlier than the rest of the men, there was also a big possibility of him...

I didn't want to think about the other option. And the situation with my father certainly took my mind away from the sadness over where he might be.

After my father fell over in front of me, I screamed for help. The guards were inside the office in no time, taking father to the nearest of the three doctors he called in today for not only him, but for the rest of the castle workers who got back from the war and needed help.

I accompanied the guards, trying to see how he was. Seeing him like this with my own eyes was absolutely horrifying.

My mother soon came in as well, asking what was the matter. My father was barely breathing and two doctors around him, trying to clean the wound as much as they could while trying to prevent further infections but from their faces, my father wasn't looking very well.

When mother realized how bad the infection has gotten, the pain in her eyes was unmistakable.

She has tried and been well on her own, yet when it comes down to it, they have been beside each other for over eighteen years. Yes, my father was unfaithful to her but her heart loved him all the same. You can't exactly unlove someone who you share so much with. There will always be the little attachment, whether it being a child or the remains of the love you held for them.

We sat by the door, away from the doctors and helping maids to give them their space to heal my father and to talk to him about his sustained injuries, until we were given a permission to go to him.

"My loves," he smiled as he gestured for us to come stand by both his sides. He then ordered for everyone to give them privacy. "I apologize that you have to see me like this. I thought it wasn't anything major."

"It sure does seem like it now," my mother muttered, hesitantly sitting down on the edge of the bed, taking his hand. "What did the doctors say?" she asked softly and my father let out a sigh.

"It appears that the infection has spread into my blood and when Misun and I were having a conversation, it was just then when my heart got very affected," he explained as best as he could, a pained look on his face as he took one deeper breath than his body allowed.

"Are there any..." I tried to talk, not being able to finish the sentence. My mind had a block on anything related to bad thoughts of people close to me.

Father then made eye contact with me, tears rolling down his face as he slowly shook his head.

"The doctors gave me hours, maximum of two days. Which means your queen duties will officially start in the near future," he announced, giving me a gentle smile.
