Cordell had invited me to help him out at the Side Step since Geri apparently left on another trip. I get the feeling even if she was here, neither of them want to see each other at the moment. So I guess I'm his second choice in company at the bar.
"Howdy cowgirl." Cordell greeted me with a big smile as I open the door to climb into his truck. "Howdy yourself, cowboy." I replied with a smile of my own, getting settled into the passenger seat and pulling the door shut.
I put on my seatbelt and Cordell drove towards the exit of the ranch to get onto the main road. "Don't worry, I'll show you the ropes around the Side Step. You'll probably be able to run that place better than me by the end of the day." Cordell said, making me giggle.
"It is a little weird to work a bar when you don't drink. But then again, there's Sam Malone." I joked, letting out a small chuckle. "Who?" Sam asked, glancing over me with a puzzled expression. "From Cheers." I replied and Cordell made an ah face as he nods. "Never seen it."
"Oh come on, the opening song was practically the 80's theme song!" I proclaim and Cordell laughs. "I don't know about that." He said, smiling like my declaration was silly. Which admittedly it probably was, since there was a lot of great songs from the 80's.
"What about Frazier?" I asked and Cordell shook his head. "Alright, pull over. This Friendship is." I said, pretending to reach for my seatbelt clip and Cordell snicker as he lightly slaps my hand away.
"Sorry to disappoint, I don't really watch a lot of TV. The shows I have seen were because of Emily. She made me watch all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls and the revival when it came out." Cordell said and I grimace at this. "Oh I am so sorry." I said, dramatically and Cordell chuckles.
"That Dean kid though... I had a huge crush on him when I was younger." I admitted, smiling as I thought about the actor and Cordell furrow his brow, briefly looking over at me again. "Dean?!" He echoed in surprise.
"Oh come on, don't you start on me too. He was cute and an amazing boyfriend!" I said, defensively. "But he cheated on his wife." Cordell pointed out. "I'm not say that's not bad, but that marriage was doom from the start. Not a single adult stepped in and say maybe getting married fresh out of high school isn't such a good idea. Also practically everyone on that damn show cheated, Dean was just the only one that got punished for it!"
"I guess I see you're point." Cordell murmured with a thoughtful expression. "Though if Emily was here, this would be an entirely different conversation. She was Logan fan." He added. "Who was cheating on his fiancé with Rory, who didn't learn her lesson after that last marriage she wrecked." I shot back and Cordell let's out a bark of laughter. "Oh yeah, I'd pay to see you and Emily debate over this show."
I smile at Cordell as we share a good laugh and I turn my head away, noticing something sitting on the dashboard. "What's with the Rubik's cube?" I asked, picking up the unsolved puzzle cube. "Liam gave it to me, to solve. Said I need to keep my mind occupied on something other than solving crime." Cordell replied.
"Hmm, makes sense. But these damn things are impossible." I said, beginning to playing with the cube. "It's a toy. Can't be that hard." Cordell said, confidently. "You be surprised."
When we arrived at the bar, Cordell went around showing me how everything works and what to do incase a customer comes in. For the most part it doesn't seem too difficult, though hopefully it stays that way and I won't have to break up a bar fight when I work without supervision.
"Wow." Micki said as she enters the bar. "Hey." Cordell and I greeted. "This is not at all what I thought this place would look like once you took over. I was expecting, um... customers." Micki said, taking a seat on one of the bar stools.
