The door to the Walkers' house swung open as Stella and August were carrying in a Douglas fir. "Ow. Ow. Okay. All right, let's go." August hissed, rushing to get the tree inside. "Slow down, Augie! Wait for me." Stella growled, struggling to keep up.

"Let's set it down! Come on! It hurts!" August exclaimed, Stella shuts the door and they take a few steps further into the house before setting the tree down. "Okay." August hisses and groans in pain.

He straights up and grunts as he begins rubbing his shoulder, which he had injured the other day by climbing up the brunt Davidsons' barn and falling through the roof.

"All right, is it bad that I can't rotate it that way, or, like, hell, any way, anymore?" August asked. "Maybe Dad should take you to the doctors." Stella stated. "Smart, Stel. Then he finds out we were trespassing at the Davidsons." August said, sarcastically.

"Not if you come up with an alternate cause of injury." Stella told him. "Yeah, because we're all as fluent in lying to Dad as you are? Right." August retorted. "You're right. He always somehow knows with you." Stella said, teasingly and her brother's face falls. "It's just me? Really?"

"I could use one last night of freedom, is all, especially after exams." Stella said as they pick up the tree again. August groans as they begin carrying it across the living room. "You sure you'll be okay?" Stella asks, worriedly.

"Yeah, yeah, no, I'm sure. You know, I've got to play piano tonight. And Faye's gonna be at the Sacred Heart holiday thing, so, you know..." August replied.  "One text from a girl, and this guy is willing to risk bodily harm." Stella said as Cordell and (Name) walk into the room, carrying bins full of Christmas decorations.

Cordell is wearing an elf hat with fake pointy ears while (Name) has a reindeer headband on. "Okay, whoa, whoa, whoa. One text from a girl? All right, I heard that, and who is this girl we speak of?" Cordell asked, as the two of them set their bins down and the kids set the tree down in the corner of the room. "Augie's new crush." Stella replied as Bonham follows them into the room.

"Ooh. Yeah?" Cordell said, grinning and points to his son. "Wow, Ruby, Bel, and now this new girl. We need get you a leather jacket and start calling you, Fonzie." (Name) said to August, who gives her a puzzled look. "Who?" He asked and (Name's) smile falters. "Welp! I feel old now." She murmured.

"Hey, Lothario, you check that thing for sap before you dragged it in here?" Bonham asked the kids. "Is that a thing?" August asked and Bonham sighs. "Send a boy to do a man's job."

Cordell gets out a record and puts it in the record player. "All right, Daddy, pop quiz. You, uh, remember this record?" Cordell asks as upbeat instrumental music begins playing, Bonham makes a face and shook his head.

"Yeah!" Cordell exclaimed, laughing. "Someone found their Christmas spirit early." (Name) remarked as she and the kids begin decorating the tree. "Well..." Cordell said, shrugging his shoulders.

The record then begins skipping. "Does anyone else hear it skipping?" Stella asked. "Please hide that vinyl before Mawline has it on repeat until New Years." Bonham said to Cordell in a slight grumpy tone.

"What's up with Bah-Humbug Bonham, eh?" August asked. "Maybe it's the sap, son." Bonham replied, sharply. Cordell points at his father while his back is turn and mouth's Grinch to the girls, which makes them smile.

"Cordell, could you go in there and see if you can convince your railroad baron brother if he can go out and rustle up a proper Douglas fir? I don't know what the hell that thing is." Bonham said, gesturing to the Charlie Brown tree. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm on it, Daddy. We got this." Cordell said, setting the tinsel he was holding down.
