"Of course you know you're not really a Ranger until a DPS chair makes it so." Stan said, dropping the papers to reenlist Cordell onto his desk and walks over to a cabinet. "You, uh, got one more important decision to make. You ready?" He asked, opening the cabinet and pulling out two bottles of alcohol. "Scotch or bourbon?"
"I'm good, thanks." Cordell said, holding up a dismissive hand. "You good?" Stan asked. "Yeah." Cordell replied. "All right. Don't mind if I do." Stan said, pouring himself a glass of scotch. "Sure." Cordell said, nodding.
Stan closes the cabinet and held up his glass to Cordell. "To Walker... Texas Ranger." He said and Cordell raises his fist in cheers. "Glad you took the time. For yourself and your family." Stan said, taking a seat on the edge of his desk and sips his drink.
"Yeah. Yeah, it was, it was... It was good. I needed that. Thank you." Cordell said, appreciatively. "Now, don't-don't get all sappy on me here. Come on, I need my top Ranger out there, not this-this new breed all in touch with their feelings and that." Stan said and Cordell scoffs.
"Yeah, well, you know, Stan, maybe it's time we embrace some change." Cordell said, smirking. "Don't doubt yourself too much. You were born to do this. Just do me one thing, though: color inside the lines."
"Uh-huh. You mean at least until you get elected D.A.?" James asked, entering the office. "See, that's a smart man right there." Stan said, pointing at James as Cordell stood up. "That's right. What, one more day on the campaign trail, huh?" Cordell asked.
"Yeah. Just got this feeling everything can change tomorrow, you know? I mean, I'm still gonna have to eat your brother's lunch at our alma mater later." Stan said, lighting hitting Cordell's chest as he stands up and walks around his desk.
"That's right, the debate at Sacred Heart High. I'm not gonna be able to make it, Stan. You're going, right? I mean, one of us is gonna have to see who our new boss is gonna be." James said, looking at Cordell. "Yeah, I was gonna drive Liam over." He replied.
"What? No. No, no, we cannot have... that-that would be favoritism. We can't have favoritism in this department. Am I right, Cap?" Stan asked. "Yeah, Walker will absolutely be driving you." James replied.
"See? That just makes more sense." Stan said and he picks up one of his VOTE STAN MORRISON pins and goes back over to Cordell. "Well, listen, I'm hoping, for both our sakes, that, uh, you won't have to take orders from your kid brother. Huh?" He asked, attaching the pin to Cordell's tie, much to his discomfort.
"That looks nice. Welcome back, Ranger." Stan said, holding out his hand. "Thank you, sir." Cordell said, taking his hand and shakes it. "Now where's my damn tie?" Stan asked, turning away.
At the high school, Liam and Bret, who decided to bury the hatchet and help him out with his campaign, arrived at the school. "Howdy, Counselor. You ready for this?" Micki asked, walking up to them.
"As ready as I'll ever be. Bret, you remember Micki Ramirez, right?" Liam asked. "Yeah, yeah, of course. She's the woman that inspired you to run." Bret replied and Micki smiles at this.
"Ah... Here we go, here we go." Stan said as he gets out of Cordell's truck with him. "Bill and Diane. Here you go. Vote Stan. You guys know that, come on. Hey." He said, already getting to work on winning the kids over.
"There he is. I've got to beat that guy." Liam muttered, worriedly. "Don't worry, you have my vote." Micki assured him. "You guys can vote, too. Make sure it's legal. We only count legal votes here in Texas." Stan said to the kids and heads for the front entrance.
"Hey, hey, look at this. Two high school debate champs closing the campaign on their old stomping grounds. Of course, Liam here took off for New York the second he got that diploma. Always the wayward son of Lonestar. You know, maybe you should have stayed an outsider." Stan said, going up a few steps to stand in front of the press.
