Today is certainly gonna be interesting, Stella and August are going on a field trip for a soccer game tomorrow. Stella apparently been talking me up to her coach and Trey asked if I was interested in chaperoning.

I agreed since Bonham and Abby are still off on their own camping trip. So there's not much for me to do around the ranch. Plus it'll be nice to see more of Texas outside of Austin.

I walk up to the farmhouse and knocked on the door. "It's open." I heard Stella call out from inside. I open the door and step inside, seeing August cooking at the stove and Stella sitting at the table on her phone.

"Hey, kids." I greeted. "Hey, (Name)." Stella said, looking up from her phone. "Hi (Name)." August said, smiling and holding up a blowtorch like he was gonna wave with it. "Whoa! Why do you have that?!" I asked, pointing at the torch.

"It makes cooking go way faster." August replied, using the blowtorch on a grapefruit that he had cut in half. "I-I don't really think that's safe." I said, nervously. "Oh it's fine. I do this all the time." August replied. "Yeah, that doesn't exactly put my mind at ease." I muttered, feeling very grateful now that I agree to chaperone for this fieldtrip.

At that moment, Cordell appears from around the corner in his ranger uniform and rolling his sleeves down. "Good morning, kiddos." He greeted them and smiles when he sees me. "(Name), hey!" He greeted. "Hey to you too, cowboy." I said, returning the smile as I admire him in his ranger uniform.

"Whoa. That-that looks, uh... ambitious." Cordell said, looking at August's kitchen work. "Is this a... a blowtorch? Wh..." He muttered, picking up the blowtorch. "Relax, I'm supervising." Stella said.

Cordell sets the blowtorch down and grabs the skillet, hissing and quickly retracting his hand. "Ah!" He exclaimed, waving his hand. "That is a hot skillet." August said. "Ah, hmm-hmm, ah. Yeah, it is." Cordell said, pointing at the skillet and goes to the fridge as I laugh at the sight, shaking my head.

"And even hotter pancakes. I put some of Mawline's spicy jam in there." August said. "Are they still camping?" Stella asked. "Uh, my best guess is they've probably checked into the Driskill Hotel by now." Cordell said, taking out a cold beer from the fridge and holding it against his burnt hand to soothe the pain.

"I swear if you end up breaking your foot tomorrow, we're gonna have to put you in one of those protective bubbles." I said teasingly to Cordell, who laughs. "I'm not that accident prone." He said, defensively. "Says the man that stapled a nail into his hand last week." I retorted.

"You did what?" August asked, both kids looking at us in shock. "N-nothing." Cordell stammered, looking flustered and I giggled, earning a quick look from him to stop it.

"Uh, Stella, by the way, Gramps and Mawline wanted me to tell you good luck. And, sweetie? Your Laredo game, I'm..." He begins but Stella interrupts him. "I'm gonna try my best to make it to the game." She said, imitating her father.

"Yes." Cordell said, nodding. "Clean your room. Hey, that skirt's too short!" Stella continued. "Ugh. Dad!" Cordell said, imitating Stella, who smiles and I let out a loud bark of laughter.

"Hey, if you can't make it to the game, uh, I can just show it to you when we get back from Laredo. I'm filming it with Ruby." August said to Cordell. "Ruby? This the same Ruby that told you to crash my undercover operation?" Cordell asked, raising an eyebrow.

"She didn't tell me to. So, anyways, we are supposed to be filming the dance next Friday. But I'm, uh, I'm thinking about asking her to go." August said. "Yeah?" Cordell asked and August nods as the three of us exchang a look.

"You don't think she'll say yes?" August asked, nervously. "I think that is a tricky question. Can we talk about something simpler? Like gun control? Or Dad's DPS hearing?" Stella replied.
