Your ears feel numb as the sounds of bursting firecrackers surround the air around you. It's a bit cold out here, there's chitter and chatter around you and there's lustre everywhere. In a distance you can see many sky lanterns being released into air, and right behind you can hear the sizzling pans with snacks being prepared on them.
You feel a shiver run down your back when the thought of the note in your hand crosses your mind. Your breath hitches as your eyes fall down to the piece of paper clutched in your hand, all crinkly and worn out from the constant hold you had on it since this afternoon.
Moving it around to unfurl it for the thousandth time, your eyes skim over the neat, effortless handwriting bejewelled on the yellowish paper. Your chest feels full when the voice in your head reads it out.
"There's nothing like a kiss under the pale moonlight, paint on your skin and my hands nowhere but where you are. Hurting you is a sin, and I've never felt more like a culprit. Let me near you, I'll try my best to give back what I took yesterday night. Let me make it up to you?" Are the words scattered on the little piece of paper, with a doodle of lychees at the bottom right corner.
You sigh.
He can be so fancy at times.
You know that arguments are normal in all relationships, they happen between you two all the time before you make up. But what he said last night really hit you. For a second, the way he talked reminded you of someone- and you had the most horrifying train of thoughts for those few minutes until those thoughts went away.
But this note, it reminds you of nothing but Jungkook's true essence. The words are just exactly what his mind would concoct, the handwriting could never make you reconsider. Every line and every curve was a splitting image of his personality, and those atrocious doodles are something only he can think of leaving under such poetic and complicated words.
Your eyes first lift up to the moon, the way it gets covered by the shimmering explosions, which blend in with the sparkling stars studded on the navy blue night sky. You can see the lights reflect on the body of water that is right beneath you. It would touch your feet easily if you were at a spot a bit lower than this railing, but it's cold for that.
The stalls of food and drinks bustle behind you, people singing in one corner, some too thrilled to even speak because of the fireworks. Some children nibble onto snacks, some elderly people rest in their chairs as they observe.
Tonight, you're a hundred percent sure that no one is missing out on anything, and no one is thinking or chatting about you. No one is at home tonight, everyone is somewhere outside if not here in the festival to rejoice in the night. Everyone is entangled in the fantastic view that undertakes the whole city by its magic.
Slowly, your eyes peel towards your right, where he sits just as silent as you, feeling just as empty as you. His hand occasionally tries to touch yours, but guilt makes him feel sick, it takes away any courage that he once possessed. It comes back once in a while, and he knows it when he's about to reach out to you. But it all goes down the drain once his eyes meet your frame. His confidence melts away like a candle in the wind.
"The sky.." he finally speaks, still too scared to lift his eyes at you. "It's pretty..really.."
"I'm not talking to you." You reply throwing the piece of paper in your hands towards him, as you wipe some little tears from your eyes.
"But I am!" He excitedly moves closer to you because this was the first time since yesterday that you had replied to him. "I am talking to you, you can listen if you want, or ignore if you want to miss out on the astonishing speech I'm about to deliver." He says as you sigh tiredly at how peppy he sounds. You almost smile.
