Chapter 1.

You wander through the halls of the emperor's coven to your room. It was late at night, so you tried to be as quiet as possible.

Finally, you reach your room, exhausted, you collapsed onto the bed. You took off your mask and uniform into something more comfortable.

You sat on your bed, holding the mask in your hands, and stare at it for a second, thinking about the tryouts tomorrow.

Suddenly you tense and grip the mask tightly as a spark flared next to you.

"It- it won't happen again tomorrow. I can try to control it. I'll try...."

You whispered to yourself as you put the mask away and laid in your bed as you drift off to sleep.

The next morning the sun brightly shined in her eyes, you waking yourself up before putting on her scout uniform and mask, heading out the door quickly.

Almost all the scouts were trying out for the higher role, and anyone who didn't was most likely terrified. After all, THE Golden Guard was holding the tryouts.

Still, some people were brave, and some were stupid also.

Eventually you made it to the courtyard, where there was a large crowd of scouts in the clearing. You blended into the crowd, and made conversation with a few of the others, everyone so excited and nervous at the same time.

Suddenly everyone quieted down as you saw Kikmora move to the front of the crowd with the Golden Guard next to her.

"Hello scouts, today as you all know you will be trying out for a new higher ranked position that was added recently. You all will undergo three tests and there will be only one winner."

There were excited, hushed whispers through the crowd. You wondered for a moment what the position could even be, before Kikimora raised her hand to silence the crowd.

"The Golden Guard will be hosting said tests. And anyone who would like to leave now is allowed to."

A few scouts ran out of the crowd, one screaming.

"That was expected." Kikimora sighed, "Now as for the rest of you, follow me." The Golden Guard chimed in. Kikimora glared at him as he guided the crowd away.

They all followed him with into a large clearing, and the crowd gathered around him.

The Golden Guard waved his staff, and suddenly a few dozen scouts appeared with dark gray cloaks instead of white.

"For the first test, you will be fighting these guys. First 10 to be defeated will be eliminated, so good luck!"

He then disappeared with another wave of his staff as the attackers charged.

One came for you, but you were able to blind them with vines before knocking them out without much problem.

You saw some scouts already being down for the count, tangled in vines, bound, knocked out, etc.

Suddenly, the attackers vanished into thin air and the Golden Guard appeared in front of the crowd.

"I must say, I'm not very impressed. But on average, most of you did okay." He shrugged before waving his staff as 10 scouts vanished.

He then led you all back to the castle to a large room.

"This is where the second and third test will be hosted. And now for the second test, you will all have to fight each other in pairs of two. Your goal is to knock down your opponent for at least 5 seconds."
