TW: mentions of self-harm, relapse
summer 10 // day before the luau // 4:30 pm
Waking up in the morning was just a little too difficult. Y/n felt it was too familiar for her liking. The way she found difficulty doing her regular morning chores. Even putting up an act was hard.
She's lacked social interaction, her only interactions limited to brief greetings and strained smiles as she's rushing to get her work done for the day.
It leaves her physically and mentally exhausted, not a millisecond of her day spent on herself or rest, just the single thought of having enough money to pay off Robin by the next two days so she can get started on a kitchen upgrade.
Speaking of which, she's finally saved up for. Y/n is now on her way up the mountain as she forces her energy to hang in with her expectations. Chewing on an energy bar she hopes might help the pain in her joints. "It'll all be worth it." She whispers to herself as she reaches Robin's door, exhaling deeply. She's trying to convince herself the work wasn't too overwhelming the way it felt back in the city. But when she wakes up feeling restless and numb, a tiny piece inside her left from Zuzu is gradually ripping her apart internally.
She turns the knob, coughing into her sleeve before she heads in.
"Y/n! I'm assuming you're here to pay off the house upgrade?" Robin greets her with an expected smile.
Y/n on the other hand simply nods, her lips thinning into a line as she tries to give Robin her best smile. But air catches in her throat and she begins to cough. "Oh, honey..." She suddenly rushes from her spot, wiping the stray hairs from Y/n's face and putting her hand on her forehead and neck to inspect the aching body that was the farmers.
Y/n lets her, staring at nothing as she sniffs, clearing her throat.
"Yeah." She croaks out. Shutting her eyes and letting Robin sway her around to estimate just how gone she was info the sickness she didn't even realize she picked up.
"You don't look too well, sweetheart." she insists but Y/n weakly pulls away. "No, it's alright! I'm fine!" She tries to insist, sniffing up all she could do she wouldn't sound too nasally.
"Are you sure-"
"Yes! Yes!" Y/n exclaims, suddenly joyous, or at least she tries to be as she fixes her hair and straightens her clothing, pulling away from Robin's embrace.
"I'm fine, Robin. Serious." She smiles reassuringly, still holding her hand. Sighing, Robin can't do anything to talk Y/n out of being honest. So going against her instincts, Robin walks back to her spot behind the counter, rolling her sleeves up like she's about to do hard work.
"So!" She begins and Y/n is grateful she didn't pry any further. Besides. She wasn't feeling sick. Maybe a little under the weather, but not to the point where she needed a break from doing her job.
"10,000G, that's a lot of money." Robin chuckles, her cash register dinging as Y/n takes out a small bag inside her backpack.
"Got it in cash. By the time the season ends, I'm gonna be bankrupt if I don't sell anything more than my crops." Y/n laughs nervously, picking out her money to hand to Robin. When she does, the ginger doesn't even care to count, seeing as she trusts Y/n so deeply that she'd give her the right amount. Y/n smiles at this.
"You should really count your money before you put it in the register." She snickers, catching Robin's attention. She glances towards the cash, bundled up in an elastic band. "I trust you. Besides, if you did take a few out you probably would've told me later on." She smirks, now counting the money as Y/n had begun to act quite suspiciously.
