This one is going to be a bit grim so bear with me here guys. War is nothing like u think it is. Not that I've experienced it, but I've heard many stories of war. War is death. It's people dying right in front of u, it's people screaming for their mothers, it's gunshots all around u. It's just u, a gun and a mission.
1) There are many types of war and warfare. Include terminology in your writing that helps readers understand what type of war or warfare you're discussing.
2) Ranks are important when it come to the military, for example, there's seargant, captain, lieutenant, ect. And knowing what exactly they do is extremely important. Make it make sense.
3) Many weapons and tools are used in times of war, for example, guns, rifles, tanks, depends on when and where it's going on.
4) terminology is so important. its crucial. its one of the most detailed things you have to know and research.
5) telling time. time in the military is called 'man hours' basically, its telling you the time according to how many hours of the day have passed. for example, eight o clock in the morning is still 8:00, but lets say its eight o clock at night, it would be 20:00. the way i do it is, how many hours after twelve would 20 be? so like 12 + x = 20. or 20 - 12 = 8. Yes its confusing, but it works.
Examples: BOLD ARE IMPORTANT DETAILS.
(this is set in the 1940's, so a lot of things are different. im going to split it up so that ur not reading 2,700 words worth of a chapter u have no idea about.)
She grabs her radio with her right hand, "Charlie to TwinStrike, we're getting close." She says through the radio, calling to a soldier on the ground.
"Copy that, Charlie."
The plane is rocking slightly in the air. Bambi searches over the plane's nose. It's too cloudy for her to see far, but Will is watching closely as well. She works the controls with her right hand while her left holds the yoke. It's a comfortable silence, the only sound is the wind and the shifting of the plane. It's making that low rumbling sound, but Bambi knows it isn't something they need to worry about.
Bambi looks down at her watch, 19:04.
The cushion underneath her is a bit uncomfortable and is making her ass numb. The gears and controls are rusty, so her fingers feel rough from it. Her belt is strapped in a bit too tight, and she's terribly cramped. Every now and then, Will and Bambi will accidentally shove their hands in each other's directions, and end up knocking their knuckles together. B - twenty fours suck.
(notice how i describe the plane, describe what happens, describe how it works. ive went into further detail in previous chapters to this, but u, someone who may have never even heard of a B - 24, can tell how it works.)
It's when she sees a bullet knock against the window, she knows they're in enemy territory. Bombs go off around the plane, bullets fly. Orbs of light explode on the ground. She can hear the guns of the top turret gun going off, and the sound of shells falling to the floor of the plane. Trigger is below her, her bombardier for this mission, watching the bombsight closely. Pencil took place as the engineer, as usual on a B - twenty four, and Dumbo took his job as the tail gunner. The Davis boys are sitting at the waist, Danny occasionally going to check the radio, because of Miller's size, he's down in the ball turret, Brown is at the top turret, Zenni is the navigator, sitting right behind her, and Bucky is sitting in the Bomb bay, making sure nothing goes wrong.
