twenty seven - a character with a southern accent

now this is my forte. i live - not going to say exactly where - in the south, and my family is very southern. our spelling is quite the same to other states in the US, but we do have some different slang

1) one thing you always wanna do is say, y'all. that is one of the most common pieces of slang in our culture. we use it in almost every sentence, even if we don't make sense. but dont get this mixed up with people from Kentucky. They say you all.

2) we always slur our words together. example: instead of need to, it's needa. instead of got to, it's gotta. instead of probably, it's prolly. Wanna, shoulda, etc.

3) we usually have deep, husky, voices

4) when we meet a person who's also very southern, we say the phrase, he/she is as country as a watermelon. not sure why, but we do. like, when I first met my best friend, she has a THICK accent and the first thing I thought was, dang, she's as country as a watermelon.

5) we call our parents, mama, and daddy. we pronounce daddy with an e, so it sounds like deddy.

6) but also note that not ALL children with southern parents have an accent or not one as noticeable. like me, I don't have that much of an accent, I call my parents mum and dad. I don't use phrases that often, I really don't even have that much of an accent, sometimes you can hear the dip, but most of the time I just have a steady voice.

7) instead of over there, we say over yonder.

8) and yes, we do love fried chicken and sweet tea.
