be mean to your characters.
what do they take for granted? pull it away from them. what do they fear? shove it in their damn faces. what do they want more than anything? dont give it to them. make plans fail; make them cry; break them; make them question things; make them fuck up. let them learn and grow, thats what a story is supposed to be about, a story of someone growing and overcoming. be mean to your characters, and then, maybe be a little nice. a little. cause after going through that, theyre going to need it.
