Chapter 18 - bad timing

I woke up, it was game day today against Norway. I again didn't expect to start as I was still new and although I scored in the last game it was still unlikely I would make my starting debut.

I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to get myself ready for the day. I left the bathroom to Lauren waiting my the door, "you alright mate?" I asked as she rushed passed me into the bathroom. "Everything ok in there?" I asked but got no response. I was getting worried but decided to leave it as I wasn't getting any response and the door was locked.

After about ten minuets the bathroom door opened and I saw a week looking Lauren walk out of the door. "Hey mate you alright? You look terrible." I said calmly as she walked slowly over to her bed and got in it shivering which was weirded considering it was boiling outside. "I feel so sick." She said from her bed "is there anything I can get you?" I asked and she shook her head "should I tell someone?" I asked and she looked up at me "Leah." Is all she said and I left the room going down to Leah and Georgia's room.

I knocked on the door and a tired stanway answered it. "Hey mate." She said while yawning "hey is Leah here?" I asked and she nodded before letting me in.

I walked into the room and saw Leah with a sudoku puzzle book and a pencil laying in her bed. She saw me and smiled "Ella, what's up?" She said smiling and moving over so I could sit on her bed. "I'll leave you two to it then." Georgia said leaving the room "what's up baby?" She asked while I lay next to her as she was stroking my hair, I was so close to falling asleep until I realised I had to answer her question. "Lauren, she's sick." I said to Leah and she sat up shocked "like badly?" She questioned and I nodded. She got out of bed and quickly got into shorts and a t-shirt instead of her pyjamas before putting on her slide era and rushing out the room.

I followed after her as she headed straight to my room, "keycard?" She questioned in a panic. I handed her my keycard and she went in "hey hemp you alright?" She immediately calmed her voice and knelt down next to Lauren's bed. "No I don't think I can play today." She said evidently sad "it's ok, treat the person before you treat the player." She said getting up.

She walked over to me "stay here, get her some water to keep her hydrated and I will go tell Sarina." She said before kissing my cheek lightly and walking out the door. I felt my face go red at the slightest little touch.

I did what Leah told me to do and got Lauren a glass of water and placed it on her bedside table to help her hydrated herself. "Here you go, sip it don't chug it." I said as I placed the water down.

About fifteen minutes later Leah came back and she told me to get some food and get ready while she waits for a staff member to come see Lauren.

I headed down to the canteen and grabbed some toast but didn't feel like staying so I grabbed Leah a bowl of cereal and headed back up to my room. I got in and saw Leah laying on my bed on her phone.

Lauren was asleep so I gave Leah her cereal and sat down next to her and ate my toast. "Thanks." Leah whispered looking into my eyes, at this moment all I wanted was to kiss her but I didn't want to wake Lauren up.

I felt my body naturally gravitating towards her leaning in closer then there was a knock at the door snapping us back to reality.

I got off the bed and went over to the door, I saw a staff member coming in with loads of different swabs presumably to test Lauren. "Hey is this Lauren Hemp's room?" She asked at the door "yes she's asleep at the moment but she is just in here." I explained and she looked through the door "ok well I'm gonna stay with her today so you can do the match and so she has someone here for her. Can I come in?" She asked and I stepped aside to let her in "hey Leah." The lady said smiling as she walked through the door "hey Alex, you ok?" She asked and I was shocked that they knew each other.
