Chapter - 20 cheer up

I got off the train and took a bus to my family home. I walked up the drive and through the gate, something get weird, it was very quiet and house that was once filled with happiness now get sad and empty. I walked in and the dogs came running up to me, they also weren't as happy as they usually were. Walking into the house felt like a horror movie. it was quiet, so quiet you could hear the tap dripping in the kitchen. I walked into the lining room where I saw all my mum and younger brother sat on the sofa in silence. "Hey." I said quietly but because of the silence it felt like I shouted it.

My mum immediately stood up and came over to me wrapping me in a hug. "We missed you, are you ok?" She asked me and I nodded my head but I could tell she saw right through me. "How's dad?" I asked not knowing what the answer would be. "He's broken his neck and arm and a leg, but he should be ok once it is all healed. He isn't paralysed as he hasn't damaged any nerves but it could change." My mum said as I sat down in the other sofa. I looked over at Tommo who was usually either cracking jokes or happy but he looked lifeless and sad, I had never seen him like this before.

Tommo and Oscar had a great friendship, they were always playing around in the garden and wrestling. They would never leave each other alone when they were together. They would be with each other all the time messing around and always up to no good. The ten year age gap was quite a big one but they acted like they were children every time they saw each other. So Oscar's death was obviously proving hard for Tommo.

"Tom, you alright?" I asked looking over at the empty teenager sat on the sofa. He shrugged his shoulders then nearly started crying again, I rushed over to him and hugged him. He rested his head in my shoulder and cried. I felt so heartbroken seeing my family In so much pain. "When's the last time you left this house and where did you go?" I asked my mum and she looked over at me "we left the day it happened to go to the hospital and that was it." She said and I knew I needed to get them out of the house.

I walked to my bedroom and grabbed some things before convincing them to go and have showers and get ready for the day. I decided to take them down to the fun fair that was on and them go to the beach as it was absolutely boiling. I packed up a bag with swimming costumes, towels, food and drink, beach activities and lots more. I took the bag to the car and put it in the boot before going to force my brother and mum out of the house.

I got into my mums room where she was just sitting on the edge of her bed. Looking at a baby photo of my brother. "Come on mum we should go." I said trying to draw her away from the photo that she placed on her bedside table before walking down the stairs.

I dragged Tommo out of his room and put him in the back of the car before pulling it out so my mum was able to get in. "Where are we going?" I heard Tommo say just barely over a whisper. "It's a surprise, you'll love it." I said diving down the road towards the local fair.

We arrived at the fair and went in and I saw a smile on Tommo's face when he saw all of the rides. We went straight to the biggest rides and went on all of them before going to grab some food from one of the very overpriced stalls. "Thank you for doing this Ella, it means a lot." My mum whispered in my ear and I pulled her in for a side hug.

We finished at the fair and headed to the beach "mum I don't have a swimming costume can I just wear this?" Tommo asked and I laughed "Tommo, I packed swimming costumes mate don't worry." I said laughing at the fact he would do the same when he was about three.

We went down the the beach and Tommo went straight into the water whereas me and my mum lay down on our towels and just sunbathed. I was laying in the sand with my eyes closed when I felt it get dark and I felt water dripping onto me. I opened my eyes and saw Tommo looking down at me "can I help you?" I said sitting up and looking at the boy standing above me. "Can you come into the water?" He asked and I gave in acting like I didn't want to but he knew I did.
