"Please welcome our new sergeant, Kenya Dabiku." The Lieutenant announced you, the group of soldiers in a straight line clapped for you as you walked in. You nodded to everyone and salute the lieutenant.
He smiled, putting his hand out to shake your hand. You accepted, grabbing his hand and shaking it in a kindly manner.
You were in your Army Combat Uniform; camouflaged pants and a sage green t-shirt. Your hair was back in a bun and you wore tan combat boots.
"Nice to meet you, Sergeant Dabiku. Great to have you here."
He put a hand on your shoulder and squeezed lightly. You nodded again, trying your best to be respectful because this is your first time doing any of this.
"Nice to meet you too, Lieutenant."
"Okay!" He said, clapping his hands. You looked at the small crowd, looking for your friend in the line. You didn't even realize Taehyung was right in front of you, because his hair was almost gone. Your eyes widened at his appearance, trying your best not to laugh as the lieutenant gave instructions. "You can talk with Dabiku later. We start trying today. Get outside and start running laps."
"You may fall out." The Lieutenant says, the soldiers immediately relaxing and walking outside. You observe their movements as they walked out the door. "Kenya, come here for a second."
You looked up at him and nodded, coming closer to him as he grabbed your shoulder again. He smiled as his pale showing his veins; his grip becoming firm. You gulped. You were terrified.
"Never nod at me again. I am not your friend, I am your lieutenant. I know you don't speak English well, but I need you to learn quickly. Got it?" His smiled dropped when he spoke to you. Your eyes widened at his stereotypical assumptions.
"English is my second language. I am fluent in English." You said in your Kenyan accent, trying to cover the anger in your voice but it was hard not to.
He scoffed, his tongue poking his inner cheek. "You're talking back to me, sergeant? Don't forget your place now." His grip becoming tighter. You wince at the pain, trying to stand up straight but it was difficult. This white man was grabbing the fires of Hell.
"No sir," You breath out, squinting your eyes at the pain.
"I can't hear you, sergeant." He spat.
"No Lieutenant, sir!" You yelled in his face, giving him a satisfied smile.
"Run ten laps, now!"
