When the assignment was handed to your class, your mind immediately rushed to one candidate who caught your attention.

Dedue Molinaro, the strong silent royal vassal to prince Dimitri. Being from the kingdom of Faerghus yourself, you knew of the tragedy of Duscur, yet never held it over the heads of the people of Duscur. From what you know it was an assassination carried out by a few individuals. Not the entirety of the people of Duscur. Most perished in the tragedy, including many the crown prince held dear to him.

Which was why it was no surprise to see the two standing together, Dimitri seemingly trying (and quite obviously failing) to get Dedue to go find a partner. You thought it would be rude to eavesdrop but this conversation was just too funny.

"...Dedue, you know as well as I do that I am able to handle being around other people with you not being by my side!" Dimitris voice was laced with desperation.

"Yet I would not forgive myself if something were to happen to you and I was not around, Your Highness." You did not miss the exasperated sigh from Dimitri at being called that by his close friend.

"You do not have to call me that Dedue. You're my friend and I wish you would address me as such," this is clearly a point of contention between the two friends. You almost seemed scared to step in until Dimitri noticed you standing there. "Ah, you there! Come over here." He pointed at you to indicate it was really you that he wanted to summon. You cautiously approached the two men.

"Y/N, was it?" Dimitri asked and you nodded in confirmation. "Lovely. A wonderful name. Listen, Y/N, I must ask if you would be Dedue's partner for this weeks assignment?" You looked confused by his request so he continued. "I would do this with him if he didn't already know everything about me. Plus, I would like him to socialize more with others, not just me." You looked between the two men, Dimitri's gaze pleading, Dedue's more stoic gaze unfaltering. The taller man turned to look back at the blonde.

"Your Highness, if some alone time is truly what you want, I believe I can allow that so long as you pair up with Felix or Ingrid," you saw the tension in Dimitris body fade before he let out a relieved sigh. He clearly didn't think it would be that easy.

"I was thinking of pairing up with Ashe and getting to know him better, considering I've known both Ingrid and Felix since childhood," he said, holding his hand against his chin. Dedue nodded.

"As you wish, Your Highness." Dimitri tensed a little at being called that for the third time today yet left with a small smile of gratitude thrown your way and a wave. Dedue then turned to you.

"Well, shall we?" He said and you nodded again. He then started walking off leaving you to scramble to catch up with his large strides.

"Dedue? Where are we going?" You asked, a bit out of breath from having to run a little bit to catch up with the taller man.

"The greenhouse. I'm on kitchen duty today so may as well get a head start," he said very matter of factly. Killing two birds with one arrow, eh? You shouldn't have expected any less from the man, he's one of the hardest working students at the monastery. You always saw him either cooking, gardening, or watching over Dimitri on his spare time. When in class, he was always taking note of everything Professor Hanneman said. A very diligent note taker, always making sure to catch every small detail.
