More poly ships woo!

I mean Edelgard and Hubert getting together is basically cannon. Have you SEEN their A supports?

Basically, these are the events leading up to the big reveal of chapter 11 right before the war. If you haven't played the BE route this contains major and I mean MAJOR spoilers. Read at your own risk. That means you too babe.

[Angst (?), slight NSFW maybe, and some fluff. Only if you squint though. There's mentions of manipulation. Basically this is a kinda dark chapter.]

{I'd better be remembering to be putting this part the whole time \_(0-0)_/}

When Edelgard got the letter that her father, the current Emperor, was declining in health, she knew it was time.

The months of planning, preparation, training. It was all about to be put in motion.

The plan started with Byleth standing in for the Archbishop as a witness to Edelgards coronation. There was a fallback plan in case they said no. Byleth was the Black Eagles' professor. You were fairly certain they would say yes. And they did.

The trek to Enbarr was made immediately and in record time. Seeing the Emperor on the throne hurt your heart a little bit. He was very sickly and unwell, on the brink of passing. And this is Edelgards father! This must hurt her too, no matter how stoic she may seem in this moment. Even Huberts posture seemed more rigid than usual.

The plan went down without a hitch. The Emperor, of course, understood his daughters pleas.

"I had been preparing for this day, but to think that it would come so soon. And Hubert, young Vestra, you've grown so tall! It's been so long," the Emperor was still a doting father it seems. "And you," he turned to you, "you must be my daughters confidant. You're a radiant young one, you are." You smiled at him. He wasn't wrong. If Hubert was Edelgards bodyguard and Byleth her advisor, it was safe to consider you her confidant. The one she trusted her plans to after Hubert. Though the relationship the three of you had behind closed doors was something else entirely.

"I assume you're here as the Archbishops stand in?" Byleth nodded when the Emperor addressed them. "I'm sad Lady Rhea herself couldn't make it but it couldn't be helped."

"Father, I am very grateful that you are giving me your blessing. I know you are unwell. The stress of the Empire must be weighing heavily on your shoulders. Please allow yourself rest in your final days," Edelgard took her fathers hands. You saw a tear fall down her cheek. Her stoicism could only hold for so long before she broke. Everyone in this room knew that it would be isolated from the world when she eventually did.

"My beautiful daughter," the Emperor stood shakily and you and Hubert both ran to his side to help prop him up, helping him stand. "You have been through so much. My shining survivor. Please lead Adrestia to a brighter future, however you may envision it." You saw Edie's shoulders shake before she smoothed out her breathing again.

"Thank you, father. I promise I will create an empire you will be proud of," Edelgard knelt before her father. He knew what must be done. Byleth took the head piece from the Emperors head and placed it on Edelgards. It looked so right on her. The Emperor, no, Ionius IX, began his speech.

"Under the watch of the Goddess Sothis and the one standing here in her place, I beseech you, one knelt before me. You now have the crown of the Emperor placed on your head, passed down for centuries before thee. Each Emperor who has worn this crown has made this vow and you must do the same. Vow to bring Adrestia to a brighter future under a just rule, a rule of peace and tranquility. Let any transgressions be handled by following the teachings of Seiros in a lawful and fair manner. Make any decision for the will of the people and never in a manner of selfishness. Stay true to this vow, no matter the cost. Bring Adrestia to greatness." You knew this speech had been said before, passed from mouth to mouth, generation to generation. You were surprised by it's length, expecting it to be longer and more wordy. You were silently glad it wasn't.
