Uh so

I didn't plan to disappear for a month.

I promise.

A lot happened.

I haven't been able to talk about it freely without feeling like a burden on others sooooo Therapy it is!

I'm gonna throw myself into my writing to distract myself for a bit.

SO I'm back not really!

Also read Legend of Himbo! It's an original story that I want to turn into something bigger sometime. Feedback and the like is appreciated!

Warnings for this chapter: None. Just fluff. I'm in that mood right now.

Being married to a king was not what you were expecting.

It is meetings with royals, dukes, and messengers from other kingdoms.

It is loads and loads of seemingly endless paperwork.

It is visits to Garreg Mach to speak to the newly appointed Archbishop and aid in the rebuild of the once glorious monastery.

It is nights where one of you goes to bed and rises before the other, barely sharing a moment of respite from the long, grueling tasks of day to day royal life.

Yet it is also grand, celebratory feasts and lavish parties with friends and loved ones when an anniversary, birthday, or sometimes no real reason at all pop up.

It is slow dancing under the moon and stars in the royal garden where no one would dare interrupt the two of you when you look so happy to be so close to each other.

It is admiring your simple yet elegant wedding band, adorned with a small sapphire surrounded by silver, holding the gem in place.

And it is moments like these, where you're sneaking three kittens into the palace to shelter them from the cold.

Before anyone asks, no. This was not a regular occurrence.

Which is why the handmaids were staring at you kinda funny as you smuggled something under your cloak that was definitely moving, by the way.

A few servants had to blink a few times to make sure they were seeing correctly.

They were.

You had been trying as hard as you could to stealthily sneak into the kitchen in order to grab something edible for the babies currently being cradled in your cloak. That's where you met your first hurdle. You knew cats drink milk. But... Not cows milk. Other cats milk. Where and how would you acquire cats milk? Is that even kosher? Maybe put the kibosh on that idea for now.

Do kittens eat squab? Would duck or other fowl be acceptable? Maybe fish?

You better make a decision fast because you've been standing in the doorway to the kitchen for a while and people are watching you. Intently. To see what in the world you're doing.

With not much time to act, you grabbed a bit of leftover duck from dinner and some fish from the fridge and bolted off to your shared room. The room you share with your loving and adoring husband, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd.

Who was currently sitting with his back to you at his desk in your study corner.

Which is, unfortunately, where you wanted to set up shop.

Hearing the door to your room open, Dimitri turned to look at you with a gentle smile on his face.

"Ah, my beloved! It's lovely to see you this evening. The meeting I was to have with Fraldarius territory was delayed a day and..." He trailed off mid sentence when the scene in front of him finally settled in his mind.

First weird thing: You had some duck and fish in your hand.

Second weird thing: Your cloak was moving around and making some noise. Not a human noise.

Third weird thing: Your expression showed that you were hiding something. Having been married for a few months now, Dimitri was able to pick up certain habits and micro-expressions. Suffice to say, he knew something was up.

"My love, what is moving under your cloak?" Your husband tried to take a direct approach, hoping you'd be open and honest and not skirt around the question.

Wrong move.

"Um... My arm?" You responded, trying to settle the movement under your cloak at least a little bit.

"I... Do not believe your arm alone would move in such a manner," he raised his brow at you and you shrunk a little bit. "And another thing. Why do you have leftovers from dinner in your hand?"

One of the kittens squeaked a bit too loudly which you tried, in vain, to cover up with a cough.

"I was... Still hungry after dinner?" Your explanations weren't very convincing. Like, at all. A for effort though.

"If you were still hungry I would thing you would eat in the dining room or at least grab a plate," he was on to you. You figured it was time to reveal your little secret.

Moving over to the desk where Dimitri remained seated, you opened your cloak and gently placed the three kittens on the desk with your left hand. Grabbing a kerchief from your pocket, you placed that down then placed the food you had brought with you atop it. The kittens were able to smell the food and moved towards it very quickly.

You took this moment to steal a glance at your husband.

Dimitris eye was wide, watching the three fur balls in awe and wonder. You watched as his hand raised, then fell, then raised again and held it out towards the kittens. One of them, a ginger kitten with bright blue eyes, sniffed his hand for a second before going back to chowing down on the food. He took that as a sign of acceptance and turned to you with a look that read 'Did you see that? The small fuzz didn't hate me!'

You had a smile that could put the moonlight shining down to shame. You were very proud of your husband who has come a long way into getting animals to not be afraid of him. That was another thing him and Dedue had in common.

Once the kittens had finished up their meal, they started squeaking.

These fuzzes don't speak English. Dimitri had no idea what they wanted now.

You could hazard a guess.

You motioned for your husband to pick one of them up. He blinked at you. So you picked up two of the little kitties and nodded at him to do the same. Which little one did Dimitri get tasked with holding? The orange one.

Dimitri was still clueless but went with his paternal instinct and held the kitten close to his heart. That seemed to settle the kitten down as it cuddles into his chest and fell asleep.

It was an absolutely adorable sight.

Your husband who once was this formidable killer feared throughout the lands of Fodlan was now holding a tiny little kitten who was fast asleep against his heartbeat.

You mirrored your husbands movement and brought the two you were holding to your chest as well, against your heartbeat. You were holding a tuxedo kitty and a tortoiseshell.

You made eye contact with Dimitri whos eye was still wide in awe.

"Does this mean we can keep them?" You mouthed silently, hoping to keep the kittens asleep.

Dimitri looked at you, the kittens in your arms, the kitten against his chest, then sighed.

"Yes. I believe this does mean we can keep them," he nodded softly. You moved towards him and bent down slightly to kiss the top of his head.

"Thank you, my darling," you smiled against his forehead and Dimitri had a smile of his own on his face.

"Anything for you, my beloved."
