Chapter 29

Double Update so read chapter 28 first! 

Today is the Kiss on the Lips Party and I have a shit ton of stuff to do. 

I still haven't picked out a dress for tonight and I'm still trying to confirm a date, well dates but a bulk of my morning would be spent at Uncle Nate's office conducting interviews for NYC's Top Ten Influential Teens of 2021. 

"Willow, hi, honey!" Uncle Nate beams pulling me into a side hug as I walk through the lobby.

 "Hi." I laugh lightly, squeezing him back.

 "I'm honored to be here, truly." I start as we get onto the elevator, "But shouldn't someone like Julian be here for this considering she was top three last year?" I question. 

"Well, you were number four, so you still broke top five. Very impressive by the way. You know we try to have at least one person who was in top ten the previous year to serve on the interview committee the following year." He explains. 

"And I was the only one you asked to return...interesting." I think out loud waiting for him to expose the truth.

 "We were just so impressed by you." Nate grins as we exit the elevator and walk down the hallway. 

"And yet that I didn't win. Hmm this seems like Aunt Blair and mom had their hands on this, no?" I question. 

Uncle Nate finally cracks, seeing the look I was giving him. 

"Okay yes. Your mom and Blair thought this would be a good opportunity for you to continue to have your name out there for good stuff. You know positive press."

 I let out a loud sigh at this information. 

"Your mad?" he questions.

 "No, more like annoyed."

 Mom needs to but the fuck out of my life. 

I've had enough of all this pushiness. 

All this push for a return to normalcy and public image just keeps reminding me of the past thus doing the complete the opposite. 

I pause in the middle of the hallway suddenly realizing something. 

"Wait, do you know why they've scaled back on Valentine's Day Week then?" I question. 

"If I tell you, you can't rat me out." Uncle Nate says. 

"Sure, yeah." I rush out, wanting to know his answer. 

"Fine, they didn't want to be overly affectionate in front of you considering, your last boyfriend did what he did. They just didn't want to remind you of what you lost."

 "Of course." I scuff. 

"Uncle Nate, you have to convince them to stop. They are literally driving me insane." I plead with him.

 "I'll try my best, but your mom and Blair can be scary when they've set their mind to something." 

"You've known them since childhood, surely you've figured out how to not be easily intimated by them anymore." I scuff. 

Uncle Nate has and always will be a golden retriever and people pleaser. 

"Alright, alright enough about me. Just enjoy this morning. No matter how it happened it's an honor and a privilege to serve on this committee." He reminds me as we arrive at the room where the interviews will be at.

 "You're right." I sigh, as I follow him in. 

After greeting the rest of the interviewers, we get started with the interviews.
