Declan's POV

I stuff my hands in the pocket of my trousers as I walk quickly in the brisk New York air.

Being late to my meal with Liam is the last thing that I wanted to do.

I'm trying to restart this whole brother relationship between us so that means making a good impression and the last time I checked being late is definitely a no no.

My steps couldn't get me there fast enough but soon enough I make it to Butter.

Liam had told me over text that Willow had recommended we go there.

Greeting the hostess, she leads me to our table in the back.

Seeing me approaching Liam gets up from his seat so we can do the man handshake.

"Hey! How are you?" he questions.

"Good, good. Sorry about being a few minutes late. My meeting with my publicist went a little over." I apologize as I take off my coat and run a hand through my hair.

"No worries." Liam says but his eyes squint a little as he says that as if he analyzes me carefully.

See, I knew being a late was a huge no.

We both go to sit back down.

"So, have you ordered drinks yet?" I question.

"No, was waiting for you. What do you recommend?" he asks.

"Hmm, I don't know man. I'll probably just do a whiskey neat to be honest." I reply.

I didn't care about looking through the drink menu today.

"Alright, I'll do that too." He replies with a light smile.

Not to long after that our waiter is coming over to take our drink and food order.

Once we get settled in Liam looks me over like he's fighting with himself to say something.

Well, this can't be good.

"Liam, you good?" I question softly.

That seems to snap him out of his trance because his eyes look more alive, and he clears his throat.

"Sorry, just have some stuff on my mind." He voices apologetically.

"No worries. What's got you thinking?" I ask tentatively.

Maybe I could help him solve something.

That's what brothers do, right?

"God, this is so weird." He chuckles to himself before he too moves a hand through his hair.

I give him a supportive look, telling him to continue.

"So, Willow got me your book." He begins.

She did that?

"And I read it, all of it." He continues.

Oh, I see.

"Look Liam, those feelings of hurt are long gone. I'm so damn happy to have you back. I wouldn't read into anything I wrote about you." I voice quickly.

I mean it.

I'm not angry or upset.

I'm happy he's back and I hope I never have to lose him again.

"What you wrote about me...it's whatever. I deserve it to be honest. That's not what's got me thinking." He says.

Then what's got you thinking?
