I find myself checking my appearance in the glass window outside the studio and gallery doors before entering.
Needed to make sure I look okay.
I need to look good if I'm gonna be working with Liam today.
I call it payback for what he did last night.
Sighing I enter the studio and gallery looking around the place.
High ceilings, soft gray walls, it's perfect.
Now Liam and I just need to move in all the furniture, supplies, and paintings to make it feel more lived in, more like home.
"Willow." I hear Liam's voice, bringing me out of my observations.
"Hey." I reply casually, moving to sit my stuff behind the counter.
"Hey." He smirks.
"The shipment from Florence came in earlier this morning. I've sat them in the back, but we can start going through them as soon as you're ready." He informs me.
I study his face hoping to see mischief or literally anything that indicates that he's happy to see me.
Ready to play a game with me.
But I'm met with nothing.
"Okay, we can head back there now." I try to hide any signs of disappointment.
Before we can make our way to the back though Montana comes practically running into the studio and gallery.
"Montana?" I question.
She smiles brightly.
"Hi Willow! I have a job request." She announces.
"Well, we aren't officially open yet." I voice.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I just assumed." She explains.
"It's fine. Willow can help you out. I'll go to the back and start sorting through the packages." Liam steps in.
I give him a look asking to not be left alone with her, but he doesn't quite understand as he gives me a questioning look back before shrugging his shoulders and heading to the back.
Slowly turning around, I face Montana again.
"You said you had a job request?" I ask.
"Yes! Declan's birthday is coming up and I wanted to get a piece done for him. Something that incorporates his poems into the art." She informs me of her plan.
"Oh, um." I pause.
Why would she come to me, his ex, for this. I mean we live in New York, there are artists literally everywhere.
Not having a good enough excuse to turn her down though I accept.
"Umm, yeah. I can, I can do that." I stumble over my own words.
"So do you have any poems in mind, also what type of painting were you wanting, and when did you need this done by?" I start rattling off questions.
She answers my questions, and we continue to talk about the project for another fifteen minutes before she's getting ready to leave.
"Thank you so much again Willow. You are seriously the best." She voices in excitement.
"Yeah, of course." I reply in fake enthusiasm.
"Well, I better get going. Thanks again. Oh, and that guy you were with, the one in the back..." she trails off waiting for my response.
"Liam." I answer for her.
