SHIMMERING BOOK
Dust rose on the air as he dusted the books on the shelves. A cough escaped his lips as he slid the books back on their places. He moved to the last shelf and started dusting it. Dust also rose from the shelf. He covered his nose with his inner elbow. A book suddenly fell down, stepping on his big toes with visible veins and long nails.
“Ouch,” he cried softly, lifting up his foot but the chains violently pulled his foot back down.
The few Apexes around appeared from the edge of the passage, staring at him. He bent down picking the book. He dusted it, secretly passing glances at the few Apexes who were standing at the edge of the passage.
The few Apexes disappeared from his sight, going back to shadows where they lurked. Paul placed the book back on the shelf but one caught his attention, in a shimmering dark leathery green cover on the top shelf. He stood on his toes and reached for it. His fingers traced the book’s cover.
It was too far. He placed the feather dust on the lower shelf befire him and got back on his toes like a ballerina, slowly, avoiding the chains from rattling and summoning the Apexes. “Arrgh,” he cursed.
He once again got on his toes and reached his fingers towards the book, luckily his fingers reached the book and he pulled it, carefully and steadily. It tumbled down but his left hand was swift, to catch it in time, before landing on the floor.
He blew the dust off it. His eyes widened as his right hand traced the bold shimmering words on the cover.
“THE WRATH OF CHILDREN,” he read softly.
The memory of himself reading a book in the library written, “THE MOON AND IT’S WONDERS,” revisiting him.
“For every new zodiac the number of thirty days and 28 moons were given to each zodiac. Meaning only twenty-four days had full moons, three for crescent moon and three have no moon. The same sequence was made for every creature and men so they all could be able to live together,” he had read softly under his covers, before being disturbed by the loud banging sound.
Like any child he had gotten up, shoving the book underneath his pillow. He had got off his bed and looked around the thirty-four dormitory beds, with children on them.
He had gotten off his bed and headed out. He had walked out the dark narrow passage following the muffled screams and banging sounds.
The sight of illustration of children being stripped off from their parents by hairy creatures on the first page pulled him back to the presence. He moved his right hand on the illustration as shimmering gold words appeared on it.
For children were consider treasure than gifts
He turned the page and illustration of parents being killed appeared. He ran his hand on the book.
A terrible gift bore blood for those with their heart lock on them.
He turned the page again and illustration of the hairy creatures facing him appeared. His eyes widened, as he ran his hand on it.
For men have tied their souls with the Dark Sorcerer.
Paul turned the next page and illustration of children bones appeared.
For she devours on their flesh and innocence.
The sound of the footsteps of the Apex pulled him out from the book’s nightmare, rapidly he shoved it back on the shelf and pulled the feather duster moving out from the shelves. He came across the Apex, which stared at him. He picked the bucket of water and walked towards the exit where he got on his knee scrubbing the floor.
