CHAPTER FIRTY-NINE

IS THE NIGHTMARE GONE? FATE!

The sound of canons being fired filled his ears as he ran up the endless corridor, screams from children filling his ears. Finally he reached the outside and the sight of thousand ships came to his view as his eyes widened. All the children running up the hill toward him. “Save us Paul!”

Paul’s eyes rapidly opened, the bloody sky coming to his view. The loud sound of canons filling his ears. He dragged his aching body to sit upright. He noticed that Anna, the basket along the children he had saved back in the dark sorcerer's dwelling place were also in the boat. Jack...he wasn't there,just like he had feared along William and Barbara.

He groaned a little, realizing that Hector, the blonde-haired boy and chestnut-haired boy had their eyes on the forest ahead filled with thick fog and loud cries.

The smell of blood lingered, along gun powder. His body tensed, his eyebrows knitted.

“Where are we?” the blonde-haired boy asked, his voice shaky.

“This isn’t paradise, is it Paul?” Hector asked, turning to face Paul, his forehead wrinkled.

“Paradise can only be reached by children since they are the only ones who still possess innocence and a pure heart,” Aunty Agnes’s words returned in Paul’s head, followed by the dark sorcerer’s words.

“Your blood! It’s not innocent nor pure!” the third head yelled in satisfaction. “Your abilities! They are stronger! This time the shadow and calling are mine!”

“No, no, no,” Paul said, moving back, his eyes clouded in tears, seeing a few men in marron coats, carrying rifles at hand, at the edge of the river.
