FOR FREEDOM
She rapidly placed her feet back on the floor. She had to listen to Paul. “Keep feet down,” she whispered for herself to remember.
Her eyes scanning the spotless kitchen, not made for little creatures like her. The sight of the long steel stirring spoon on the table came to her view. She quickly rushed to the table and got on her toes reaching for the spoon.
Luckily her hand reached the spoon. She pulled it close to her. She then ran back to the oven. She stood on her toes, once again and reached the spoon toward the hook.
It reached the keys as her heart skipped in jubilant. Was she finally going to help Paul and her get out of the Midget’s home? She carefully reached the spoon for the key as it moved out the hook heading at the back of the oven.
Nimbly she jumped and landing on four of her limps on top of the oven, the key clenched by her sharp teeth. The rattling sound of the chains on her ankles filled the whole kitchen before violently pulling her off the oven onto the floor where she landed violently.
A shuddered gasp escaped her lips causing the key to get tossed out from her mouth.
Remember, keep your feet on the ground at all times, until I release your chains because they are the ones that summon the Apexes.
Paul’s words came ringing in her head, while she slowly forced herself to get up, blood running down her nose. The presence of the familiar Apex behind her lingering suddenly, caught her attention.
Her movement immediately stopped. Her body felt stiff as she slowly turned to face the Apex in a greasy apron. It growled, “What children doing?” eyes met the key tossed a few distance from Pamela. “Key?”

The Apex twisted the key and opened the metal door for Paul, then took the key, shoving it back in its coat’s pocket. It then turned to face Paul growling, “In,”
Strangely he was gone. The Apex’s eyes widened slowly turning back. Blood splashed in the air, Paul digging the steel rod deep in the Apex's neck.
Cold wind blowing his dark locks away from his hollow face, revealing his shaded face which had his tired eyes wide open. The Apex growled angry reaching it hand toward him.
Nimbly he pulled out the rod and jerked back, landing on the concrete floor, with his knee, his eyes on the Apex gushing out blood from its neck, aiming its fist for him. He dodged the attack, digging the rod now on its chest, straight to its heart.
It roared while he jumped off its chest, snatching the keys from its coats pocket, before its body landed on the concrete floor with a thud. Deep breathes left his cracked lips, tightening his grip on the stack of keys, unchaining the colossal chains on his legs.
They dropped on the floor, with a thud. His feet feeling light. He got up, his grip on the stack of keys tightening. “Pam,” he whispered, before running up the dark hallway, hearing more presences of Apexes, back at the dead Apex. His forehead frowned.
