Lepidolite stood in the throne room with Soren and Claudia, where there was a crowd. Viren entered the room and stepped forward, addressing everyone in the room.
Viren: Today is a new day! Katolis has a new king and a new royal line.
Opeli: Wait!
Opeli stepped out of the crowd and Viren sighed in annoyance.
Opeli: Lord Viren, King Ezran has abdicated. But just because he stepped down does not entitle you to take his place.
Viren: Oh? And why not?
Opeli: Because we have laws. Our laws tell us there is a way to choose a new royal line. It's how we've done things for centuries. Only orphans have a right to ascend.
Viren: My parents are dead. Does that count?
Lepidolite stifled a laugh. He had a point.
Opeli stood speechless.
Viren: Does anyone else here share Opeli's concern?
No one else spoke up.
Opeli: Viren, you are not above the law!
Viren: I'm afraid you have misjudged the situation terribly.
Viren walked up to the throne, picked up the crown, and put it on.
Viren: I am the law.
Saleer: All hail King Viren. All hail the king! All hail the king! All hail the king!
Everyone else joined in as well.
