Chapter 45. Lepidolite

The human armies are headed for the border on horseback.

Lepidolite notices Soren speed his horse up beside Viren's and reached out to smoosh the caterpillar on his ear.

Lepidolite (thinking): What does he think he's doing!?

Lepidolite doesn't get to Soren in time, but thankfully Viren caught his hand in mid air.

Soren: What, you don't want me to smoosh that thing?

Viren: Do not smoosh the purple creature. Think of it as my animal familiar.

Soren: So, you're saying you've adopted a little bug-pal?

Viren: Yes, Soren. He is my little bug-pal.

Soren: I'll just ride back here with Claudia for a while.

Soren slowed his horse down, to let Viren go ahead.

Viren started talking. Lepidolite knew he was talking to Aaravos, but it looked like he was talking to himself. The others probably thought he was crazy.

Soren rode over to Kasef.

Soren: Hey, man. I'm Soren. I don't think I caught your name.

Kasef: Kasef. Prince Kasef.

Soren: Right, right. Do I detect a little accent? Ooh, let me guess. You're from that one kingdom... You know the... you know the one I'm talking about. Uh, uh, the... Noodleoodlia!

Kasef: NeolLANdia.

Soren: Yeah. That's exactly what I just said. NoodleOODlia.

Lepidolite disguised her laugh as a cough.

Kasef shook his head and went over to Claudia.

Kasef: Your brother, Soren, he's a bit... quirky.

Claudia: Hmm. People usually say I'm the quirky one.

Kasef looked away. Claudia made a funny face. When Kasef looked back, Claudia was facing the other way. Kasef looked extremely confused.

Then Kasef looked up ahead at Viren.

Kasef: And your father, is he talking to himself?

Soren: What? No, of course he's not talking to himself. That would be crazy! He's talking to his little bug-pal.

Kasef slowed his horse down to get away from them.

Lepidolite (thinking): He probably thinks they're crazy, but I don't blame him. After all, they kind of are.
