After dinner I made the announcement. "Hello everyone, I wanted to thank you for working so hard. And as I have to constantly remind myself most of us are only teenagers and some times we need a break. We have been dealing with one thing after another, so I've decided to... have a dance. We can all take a break that night and just be teenagers and considering most of us are technically 'illegal immigrants' I was hoping that the Creators could make all the outfits and decorations," I said.
"Finally! Ever since we left America we've only been creating 'necessities', we can finally have some fun!" Alana, the leader of her group, yelled. I laughed. I'm not sure if I explained this but Creators can make any item just by thinking about it, they can't create people and in the beginning they have to draw everything.
"Ok, and I was thinking two days from now, if that's possible" I said.
"We could have the decorations done by tomorrow, but the all outfits will take both days. Meaning we can get everything done in time," Alana replied.
"Good, ok now one other thing. We are the strongest, smartest, bravest people in the world so ya'll better have the courage to ask someone out. I'm not kidding here, ok you're all dismissed and the dance is three days from now. That should be enough time to prepare. Oh and tomorrow we are matching up Protectors and Abilitors, if a Protector doesn't have an Abilitor make sure you're there, that goes for Abilitors as well. Night everyone!" I said and everyone left.
"Uh Artemis?" Bailey asked. Ashley, Brandon, and Mason were behind her.
"What's up guys?" I asked.
"Are we getting Protectors too?" Ashley asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"So how does it work?" Mason asked.
"Tomorrow the Protectors, who don't have Abilitors, will be assigned by me to Abilitors. I, of course, will look over everyone's files and choose assignments based upon what information we have," I replied.
"Ok, why the sudden decision?" Brandon asked.
"After what's been happening I thought it would be best if everyone had a Protector," I replied.
"No, seriously. Come on Artemis tell us the truth," Brandon said.
"That is the truth," I replied.
"Artemis..." Bailey began.
"I don't want anyone else to die. Ok? I just don't want anyone else to die. A lot of my friends were killed, and then the stuff with the traitor... I just can't handle more people dying," I replied.
"So you do feel," Mason commented.
"I'm not made of stone; sure things don't affect me nearly as much as others, but I still feel. And... everything is all my fault. If I started to put everything together earlier then they wouldn't have died," I replied.
"You can't blame yourself," Ashley argued.
"I can't?! I'm supposed to be the leader of this program! If I just paid more attention..." I began.
"You aren't a superhero, remember you're cursed," Bailey said. I laughed a little, remembering what I told them when I told them who they were.
"And I have no doubt in my mind that my ability is a curse," I replied.
"Then stop worrying about everything. Take your own advice, take a break the night of the dance," Brandon said.
"Ok," I replied.
"So much has changed," Mason commented.
"What do you mean?" Bailey asked.
"Come on think about it: Artemis used to be forbidden to use her ability and now she uses it daily, Brandon was a jock who didn't know we existed and now we're best friends, we had no idea that we were Abilitors and now we're using our abilities like we've used then for years, and Artemis has completely changed this program," Mason replied.
