Zara's Beginings

first words

I had just got a job as a piano teacher and was coming back from visiting someone. It wasn't much money but I had been busy with college and Zara so getting a full-time job was hard. I just arrived home when Kayla came though excited "you missed it " She exclaimed going to hug him "missed what" I asked putting my bag down.
"Zara she said her first words" Kayla grinned dragging to go the living room.
"She did" I said grinning, she had been trying to talk since her birthday but had only managed to get a few get a few syllables out. I was sad that I had missed out I wanted to be there for her milestones. she had walked at about 8 months. I headed over to Zara picking her up "hey honey I hear you said your first words isn't that clever " i smiled proud as she pulled at my hair twirling the curls.
"What were they " I asked Kayla as we sat down Zara still clung to my hair "please be dada " I teased as I placed her down "actually It was Pammy here " Kayla explained "Paloma called just before, she wanted to visit this evening since she isn't working tonight, I guess Zara heard her on the phone and is excited to see her, she's said mama and where dada since nothing else "
I frowned at the fact she missed me "I'm here Zara honey " I said softly to her "you said Paloma can come right "
"Of course I was actually grateful as I wasn't sure when you'd be home and I have a date tonight " she told me sighing I raised an eyebrow.
"Good for some " I smile at her.
"I'm not sure itll workout, Emily's idea she's set me up on a blind date with some guy named Lewis, she thought I needed a break from Zara and to have some fun " she shrugged it off
"She's right, I mean I know I'm not the best I'm occupying myself and doing my own thing you deserve a break treat yourself" I smile at her I knew I wasn't always the best parent I loved Zara but I still have the drive for music, I hadn't told anyone but I was trying to find a label again, I wanted to stop for Zara find something simpler but no matter how hard I couldn't shake the need for my own songs to be a singer it kept me level headed.
"If he hurts you I'll beat him for you " I added pretending to act tough.
"You can't hurt a fly Mika, but thank you anyway " Kayla smiled as she looked over at Zara "I just don't want to rush I don't want some guy that won't be perfect with Zara too "
"I get that " I agreed it hadn't worked with James because I had a kid.
"Do you have a picture " I asked wondering.
Kayla nodded going to find it on her her phone showing it to me "oh he's cute, if he turns out to be gay send him my way" I teased
She sighed shaking her head "shut up " She said giving Zara a hug "speaking of I should go  Paloma should be here in an hour but Zara will probably need  feeding soon, she threw up the mushy peas last time so try her on something different "
"Kayla " I interupted "I can look after her we will be fine " I say allowing her to breath she needed this rest, Zara and I would be fine and It would be great to see Paloma.
"Bye bye mama " Zara waved curly which just made me grin. I was in awe watching her grow.
