138 - Winterfell
"Cregan-"
"I will not be an oath breaker!" Cregan cuts Alysanne off; they have been fighting with each other since the news of Visenya splitting off from her mother.
While Alysanne wants to join her brothers and help Visenya, Cregan does not. She knows that Visenya would make a better Queen than her mother, and she doesn't want to fight against her brothers. Her brothers would, without a doubt, side with Visenya and fight alongside her until the end.
Cregan would not be the first Stark to break an oath, a steal oath made by his father, but he wouldn't. He would love to help Visenya but can't; he will not dishonour his family's name.
"Do you honestly believe that Rhaenyra would be a good queen?" Alysanne asks, she hasn't even talked to the Black Queen, but she knows that Visenya would be a better ruler than her mother or Aegon.
"It doesn't matter," Cregan tells her, he will not utter the words he wants to. He is a Stark, and he can't break the oath that his father has made. "An oath is an oath, and I will not be the first Stark to break mine,"
Alysanne can not help but roll her eyes at Cregan's words. She understands that honour is essential but to put a Queen on the throne that she doesn't think would be good is something she doesn't want to do. She knows in her bones that Visenya could rule this Realm with the support of the Lords and the common people. Visenya considered the lives of her men and those who lived in the realm just like her mother.
"Your fathers. You were not the one to make the oath," Alysanne points out, and Cregan can't help but close his eyes in frustration. He and Alysanne had had this conversation for the best two days, and she had been clear that she disapproved of them supporting Rhaenyra and not Visenya.
The door's opening is a send from the gods for Cregan; he hopes someone is coming to take him away from his wife, whom he loves with his whole heart, but he needs some time away from her. Not only from her bombarding him with what she thinks he should do but also so he could think about how he can help Visenya and the reds while not breaking his oath.
The guard at the door looks between his lord and lady, Alysanne is staring down the man, and he can't help but regret disturbing the two. Alysanne knows that the men fear her more than they respect Cregan.
"My Lord and Lady,"
"What?" Alysanne asks, she wants him gone, and the man can't help but shift at the stiffness of the air. Her piercing eyes burn into him, and Cregan holds back his smile while he admires his wife for a moment.
"Prince Jacaerys is asking for you," The man tells Cregan, and Alysanne crosses her arms as she faces the man.
Alysanne had thought that the young prince had been cute when she first met him at Visenya and Aemonds wedding, but now he is a pain for her. She had been hoping that Visenya would have been the one to come and ask her and Cregan for support for her mother, but when the Strong-like prince had arrived at Winterfell, she knew that this war would be between three rather than two.
Cregan had welcomed the Prince with open arms, knowing that Visenya would want her brother to feel welcomed in his home. Jace had told both Cregan and Alysanne that Visenya would be helping their mother, but when the news came that Visenya had left, Alysanne had wanted to kick the prince back South, but Cregan had not let her.
"My husband is busy right now," Alysanne tells the man, and he is quick to leave the room; Alysanne was not someone to ignore, her word was final, and everyone knew that. Alysanne turns back to Cregan, who grabs hold of one of her hands, but Alysanne pulls it away from his grasp.
