Nothing is the same anymore. I have taken so long for my mental health, and it's time to get back to business. Business seems so far away at this point that I feel like if I don't do something, I'm going to lose my mind. Between therapy and my family, I am finally ready.
"Nyna, are you hungry?" My sister Lauryn says she is walking into the door. Lauryn is the perfect person to barge in right now.
"Hmm, a little bit." "Are you cooking something?"
"Mom is cooking dinner, and it's almost ready. Are you rehearsing lines or something?" Lauryn sits on the bed beside me and looks at my books in front of her.
"No, I'm just going over my schedule." I have to be in two places at once. I have to be in Los Angeles and Atlanta for two different movies. "I mean, I missed this, but I'm overwhelmed."
Lauryn reaches over and hugs me. I really needed this random visit to my room. I need a serious break from what I'm doing.
"Well, I have great news for you then." Mom got a call today, and they want you in another role. "Picked and written especially for you."Lauryn says this while slightly smiling. She understands how this is going to alter everything once again.
"Ok, before I panic, what role is it?"
"Well, it's a big movie, and I think you should talk to mom for details." But I can tell you this... "It's a female-to-female relationship."
Did she just mention a lesbian relationship? I have never done that in my life. I'm not saying I don't like girls, but damn, this is new. I mean, should I take it or not? I have two movies already, and three is too much.
"China Anne, are you listening to me?" I was caught off guard by my teddy bear hitting the side of my face.
"Bitch wtf. I was thinking, "Damn." Give me a minute to figure this out."
"I mean, I say really consider it." You are almost done filming in Atlanta, and this film is in Los Angeles. You are already filming there." Lauryn has always been the convincing type.
"I'll talk to mom and see what she knows." "It does seem like a good opportunity to broaden my horizons." Lauryn gets up and starts to walk out the door, then turns around.
"Do you think you are ready for a lesbian role?" I mean, I've been convinced my whole life that you like women, but this is huge. And you will never guess who your love interest is." Lauryn perked up quickly, almost jumping up and down where she stood. I was immediately drawn in because this girl was jumping up and down.
"Okay, so who is said love interest?"
"Jenna Ortega." Lauryn smiles and walks out of the room, making her usual dramatic exit.
Did she just say Jenna Ortega, as in Ms. Wednesday Addams herself? I have known her since my Disney Channel days. Hmm, maybe it won't be so bad because me and Jenna are cool. I mean, if I'm going to step out of my comfort zone, it might as well be with someone I know.
"Oh, and another thing, if you are doing it, you've got to fly out tomorrow." OK, bye!!" Lauryn ran back to the door and departed as fast as she got there. This bitch just said tomorrow. Okay, well, decisions are required right now. I get up and go downstairs to find my mom in the kitchen finishing dinner.
"Oh, Ny, thank you for coming down. "Did Lou tell you the news?"My mom was smiling at me while stirring the substance in the pot on the stove.
"Yeah, she did, and she said I'd have to fly out tomorrow." "It sounds like a good idea, but I'm already busy with two projects." I sat at the island across from my mom's kitchen and twisted my chair around.
"Well, if you really want to do it, I actually worked out a way to make it work." Even though you have to fly out tomorrow, you will still have two weeks before rehearsals begin. I've scheduled you to finish your work in Atlanta in about a week after you return. This will mean double the work, but it will be worth it. Then you can relax and get yourself to Los Angeles." My mom cuts the stove off and looks at me.
"Fine, I will do it." "I guess I should go pack."
"No, ma'am, dinner is ready." "Eat first and then you can pack." She comes over and hugs me tightly. "I am so proud of you, China Anne."
"Thanks, mom."" I hug her back tightly and head to the table to help her set it for dinner.
Next Day
After flying out to Los Angeles accompanied by Lou and Gabe, I was getting excited. My siblings have a way to make any trip amazing. They are always there for me, especially when I need them, so when I asked them to come with me, they did so without hesitation. We are on our way to meet the producer and, apparently, to see Jenna also. I'm intrigued because I haven't seen Jenna in person in about 5 years or so. So the meetup should be fun.
"Sis, do you know where exactly we are going?" Gabe is sitting protectively behind Lauryn and me.
"Yes, baby brother. I have the address and the exact room number. "We are actually about to pull up right now." I pulled into the parking lot and looked at the huge film studio.
"Damn, this place is huge." Lauryn says they were looking out the window at the buildings surrounding them. I have to agree that she is right.
"Yes, everything is fine.""Let's get going, we don't want to be late."I jumped out of the car, hoping that my siblings would follow my lead, which they did. We walk to the front, and I am immediately directed to where I need to be. There were people everywhere, but the first thing I noticed were eyes on me. The feeling caused me to look to my left, and I see Jenna staring at me. I wave to her while smiling. She's certainly matured since the last time I saw her.She didn't stop staring, so I decided I probably should go speak.
"Hey guys, I'm going to go talk to Jenna and then find the producer." I said this while walking towards where Jenna was standing. Once I get to her, I reach out for a hug, which she accepts without saying a word.
"Jenna, babygirl, congrats on all your recent success. "I'm so proud of you!" I hugged her even tighter, and she flinched in my arms.
"Mmmm. Thanks China." "You look beautiful today." Jenna can't seem to get anything out of her mouth.
"Why thank you, ma'am? You look amazing yourself. So, are you excited about our new roles? Love Interest." There was tension in Jenna's body language, and I didn't know why. She kind of melted into my hug as I continued to hold her tightly. It's really been so long since I've seen her.
"Yeah, it appears to be an... experience.""I've played lesbian before, but I'm sure you haven't, so how are you feeling about it?" I noticed Jenna smiling when I finally let her go. She looked just as happy to see me.
"Um, well, it's going to be new, but I'm changing in my life, so why not bring it into the film business?" "Plus, you are my love interest, and that makes it better because I know you." I smiled at her brightly, and she couldn't help but do so in return.
"Yeah, I've been wondering since I found out you were cast what your answer to that question would have been. And you did not disappoint. "So you know they are going to make us spend so much time together from now until we shoot right." Jenna was staring directly into my soul at this point while saying this.
"Well, yeah, but I don't mind." "You are the perfect person to be stuck with. But hey, I'm going to go talk to the producer." "See you soon." I smile at her and start to walk away, still feeling her burning eyes on my back. I turn and wave to her one last time before going to find the producer.
