"So you didn't tell him?"
I looked at Sayuri as I held my cold fingers under the table. I gulped. "I didn't."
"What?" She almost rolled her eyes. "And why?"
"I don't know, I can't–"
"Ah, fuck it."
She picked her phone up from the table but I immediately stopped her. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm calling your boyfriend. If you can't tell him that you're being stalked by that crazy Takemichi, then I will!"
"No, Sayuri, don't!"
"Seriously, Nika?!"
"Please, just–" I sighed. "Just hear me out first, okay?"
We were in the food court inside the mall, on a table at the farthest corner. Peh was ordering our food, and so Sayuri and I were left there alone. The moment Peh left, I immediately told Sayuri about what happened with my meeting with Mikey earlier.
I had a hard time explaining to her why I didn't tell Mikey about Takemichi, because I myself didn't even know why. I myself couldn't even understand my own mind.
"I just don't wanna ruin Mikey's friendship with Takemichi," I said. "They've been friends even before I came into Mikey's life, and he told me Takemichi reminds him of his dead brother. I don't wanna ruin that."
She just stared at me, arms crossed.
"And.." I shrugged my shoulders. "What if Takemichi is telling the truth?"
Her face immediately turned into huge frown. "What the hell?! Do you seriously believe him–"
"'I mean, why would he lie?"
"Because he's literally insane and stupid?! And delusional?!" She widened her eyes. "DUH?!"
I bit the inside of my cheek.
"Nika." She sighed, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Listen, if you wanna believe that Takemichi is really a time-leaping jerk that have seen the future, stop, okay? Who does he think he is, the chosen one? A prophet of some kind?"
"But he said I will die!" I said, looking her straight in the eyes. "Twelve years from now. By then I would just be twenty-seven, not even thirty yet, I don't wanna die, okay? I—I don't wanna die that young."
She just looked at me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. A brief silence emerged between us, and she just stared at me. It seemed like she was finally getting why I was being like this. An untimely death in the future was something I wouldn't want to happen to me, and everything that Takemichi said just giving me a kind of anxiety.
I was about to speak but before I could open my mouth, Peh suddenly came carrying the tray of food he had ordered for us.
"Yo, girls!" He greeted, all smiles. He put the tray of chicken and fries on the table. "Y'all silent as fuck, already hungry? Let's eat!"
Sayuri and I looked at each other before looking at Peh. He was just about to sit when Sayuri spoke.
"Where's the drinks?"
"Oh—yeah. The drinks! Haha!" He scratched the back of his head. "I didn't buy drinks."
"What, we're supposed to choke on our own saliva now?"
"Damn, I thought it'll be just the two of us so I said I'd treat you, but then Nika's here and of course I have to treat her, too. I ain't got enough cash for the drinks now, Say. You know I'm broke as fuck these days."
