I was hit by a car.
My head hit the ground in such an impact, explaining the bandage that I had around my forehead. I had been unconscious and the doctor thought I was lucky that I didn't sustain any major injury. He thought it was a miracle that I was alive. It was my mom who talked to him and it was advised that I stay in the hospital for one more day for further examinations, to make sure that there were no internal complications.
My body was exhausted and sore from the accident, and the medications given to me worked my head up that I fell asleep shortly after I woke up and after repeatedly—and mysteriously—saying, 'I need to see Takemichi.' It was already dark outside when I woke up again, and the first thing I saw was Kei slouched on the couch with his phone on his face. His gaze drifted to me, looked back to his phone, then looked at me again with eyes wide when he realized I was awake.
"Fuck, you're awake." He came to me, gently holding me by the hand. "H-How do you feel? Does something hurt? Do you need anything?"
"I'm fine."
He sat on the chair beside the bed, his face was a mixed expression of worried and annoyed. He let out a long sigh of relief. "Sheesh, you're fucking stupid."
"What?"
"Don't 'what' me, I thought you're fuckin' dead!" He sighed. "If you get hit by a car again, I'll fucking kill you."
I only smiled.
His hair was a mess from slouching on the sofa, but he didn't mind. He looked tired and his eyes were a little weary and somewhat red. I looked at the clock and saw it was already 1:15 am. He hadn't slept.
My throat was dry as a desert so I asked for something to drink. As I watched him pour water down the glass, I suddenly remembered the weird thing that happened to me. The thing that I thought was the afterlife, where I saw him and Mikey as adults. Where an explosion happened. Where I died. An unexplainable defeaning sound suddenly shot in my eardrums as I thought about it, making me grab my temple as I closed my eyes. Kei immediately came to me.
"What's wrong?"
I took the water and drank.
"Should I call the doctor?"
"N-No need, it's fine." I forced a smile. "I'm okay."
The defeaning sound was gone, but the thoughts associated to it remained. I need to talk to Sayuri about this.
"The doctor made sure that you'll be okay so your Mom went home with Yuki around ten. I volunteered to stay so they could take a rest," he said. "Sayuri and Hina will be back tomorrow. Haruto stayed until midnight but he had to leave, pretty sure that wimp will be back tomorrow as well."
"How about Mikey?"
He paused. "Oh, yeah."
He said that Mikey was here in the hospital the whole time but refused to get inside my room. Kei didn't state any reason why, but it somewhat insinuated that Mikey didn't have pleasant experiences associated with hospitals.
"He's worried as shit," he added. "He's been in the rooftop, waiting. He told me to call him when you wake up."
"Is he okay?"
He scoffed. "Course he is, he's not the one who got hit by a car, stupid."
He offered to call Mikey for me, but I told him that I would instead just go to him to the rooftop. Kei protested at first considering my condition, but I assured him I was alright and that I also need to go for some fresh air.
I wasn't even lying when I said I was alright. I truly didn't feel anything serious at the moment aside from the slight throbbing of my head. Kei guided me out of the room and we walked along the corridor to take the elevator. When we got to the door that leads to the rooftop, he took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders.
